We have never been able to visit Balmoral before this year as isn't open to the public in September when we have stayed near Aberdeen so this June we had chance to go and really enjoyed the visit.

Crathie Kirk

Crathie Kirk is a small Church of Scotland parish church in the Scottish village of Crathie, best known for being the regular place of worship of the British Royal Family when they are holidaying at nearby Balmoral Castle. Crathie Kirk is now united with neighbouring Braemar to form a single parish with two places of worship. Eventually this parish will be further enlarged to include Glenmuick. The minister (since 2005) is the Reverend Kenneth Mackenzie.

Crathie, Aberdeenshire

Crathie is a village in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It stands on the north bank of the River Dee. Abergeldie Castle is a mile away. It was built around 1550 and had 19th century additions. It was garrisoned by General Hugh Mackay in 1689. Crathie is seven miles west of Ballater, but only a half a mile or so east of Balmoral Castle. It is best known for its association with the royal inhabitants of the castle, particularly for their patronage of Crathie Kirk, the parish church.
