Evesham Abbey
Evesham Abbey was founded by Saint Egwin at Evesham in England between 700 and 710 A.D. following a vision of the Virgin Mary by Eof. According to the monastic history, Evesham came through the Norman Conquest unusually well, because of a quick approach by Abbot Æthelwig to William the Conqueror.
Evesham Cricket Club Ground
The Evesham Cricket Club Ground in Evesham, Worcestershire was used for first-class cricket by Worcestershire County Cricket Club on a single occasion: a County Championship match against Gloucestershire in 1951, which Worcestershire won by six wickets. Edwin Cooper made 122 for the home side, while Reg Perks took 7-65 in the first innings. The ground was also used for two of the county's Second XI games, in 1968 and 1978.
Hampton Ferry (River Avon)
The Hampton Ferry is a pedestrian chain ferry linking Evesham and the district of Hampton across the River Avon in the English county of Worcestershire. The route dates back to the 13th century, when it was established by monks. The ferry is manually operated by pulling on a cable that is suspended across the river. When the ferry is docked at either bank the cable is allowed to sink to the river bottom, so as not to interfere with navigation.
Hinton railway station
Hinton railway station was a station on the Midland Railway between Tewkesbury and Evesham. During WW2 the area surrounding the station was used as a military fuel dump and it was subject to at least one unsuccessful air attack. Following the station's closure in 1963 the area was used by several companies for storage including the local Midlands Electricity Board who used it to store electrical mains equipment.
Bengeworth railway station
Bengeworth railway station was a station on the Midland Railway between Tewkesbury and Evesham. The precise location of the station was not in the Evesham suburb of Bengeworth itself, but 2 miles away in Hampton. The station was named Bengeworth in order to avoid confusion over other stations in the area that also included Hampton in their names. Following the closure of the line in 1963 some of the land between Hinton on the Green and south of Bengeworth station was given over to housing.
South Worcestershire College
South Worcestershire College is a further education college with campuses in Evesham and Malvern and various outreach locations. It was established in September 2000 on the merging of Evesham College and Malvern Hills College and was renamed South Worcestershire College in September 2009 to more accurately reflect its growth and geographical location. The college provides full and part-time vocational education for students aged 14–18 and a variety of courses and activities for adults.
St Lawrence's Church, Evesham
St Lawrence's Church, Evesham, is a redundant Anglican church in the centre of the town of Evesham, Worcestershire, England. It has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade II* listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. It stands close to All Saints Church, and to the bell tower of the former Evesham Abbey.
All Saints Church, Evesham
All Saints Church is an active Anglican church in the centre of the town of Evesham, Worcestershire, England. All Saints and its neighbour St Lawrence's Church were built by the Benedictine monks of Evesham Abbey in the 12th century to serve the people of Evesham. All Saints is now the town's parish church, as St Lawrence's was declared redundant in the 1970s.
