Metropolitan Borough of Wirral
The Metropolitan Borough of Wirral is a metropolitan borough of Merseyside, in North West England. It has a population of 311,200, and encompasses 60 square miles of the northern part of the Wirral Peninsula. Major settlements include Birkenhead, Wallasey, Bebington, Heswall, Hoylake and West Kirby. The city of Liverpool over the Mersey, faces the northeastern side of the Wirral.
German submarine U-534
German submarine U-534 was a Type IXC/40 U-boat of the Nazi German Kriegsmarine built for service during World War II. She was built in 1942 in Hamburg-Finkenwerder by Deutsche Werft AG as 'werk' 352. She was launched on 23 September 1942 and commissioned on 23 December with Oberleutnant Herbert Nollau in command. The U-boat is one of only four German WWII submarines in preserved condition remaining in the world, the only other IXC boat being U-505 in Chicago, USA.
Birkenhead Priory
Birkenhead Priory is in Priory Street, Birkenhead, Merseyside, England. It is the oldest standing building on Merseyside. The remains of the priory are a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. It was founded about 1150 by Hamon de Masci, 3rd Baron of Dunham Massey for the Benedictine Order. The Priory was visited twice by Edward I due to its strategic importance being close to the borders of Wales, and also the Irish Sea.
Hamilton Square
Hamilton Square in Birkenhead, Wirral, England is a town square surrounded by Georgian terraces. No two sides of the square are identical. It was built beginning in 1826 and to the design of Edinburgh architect James Gillespie Graham. It is second only to Trafalgar Square in London for having the most Grade I listed buildings in one place in England. The land on which the square was developed was purchased in 1824 by Scottish shipbuilder William Laird (1780–1841).

Wirral Transport Museum
Wirral Transport Museum is a museum situated approximately 0.5 miles from the Mersey Ferry service at Woodside, Birkenhead, England. A vintage tram service links the museum and the ferry at certain times. Admission into the museum is free with a broad selection of vintage and classic vehicles, including trams, buses, cars, bikes, and a fire engine. It also includes views of ongoing projects in the museum's workshops, a 26 feet long model railway layout and a reconstructed 1930s garage scene.
Birkenhead Town Hall
Birkenhead Town Hall is a town hall and former civic building in Birkenhead, on the Wirral Peninsula, England. The building was the former administrative headquarters of the County Borough of Birkenhead, and more recently, council offices for the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral. Birkenhead Town Hall remains the location of the town's register office. However, since the closure of the Wirral Museum in 2010, the future purpose of the Grade II* listed building is uncertain.
Shore Road Pumping Station
The Shore Road Pumping Station is a pumping station situated in Birkenhead, on the Wirral Peninsula, England. It contains the pumps which remove water from the railway tunnel under the River Mersey. When it was built in the 1870s the pumps were driven by steam beam engines. Electric pumps subsequently replaced the beam engines; however one of the original pumps, the 'Giant Grasshopper', remains on display.
Woodside bus station
Woodside Bus Station serves the Woodside area of, Birkenhead in Merseyside, England. The bus station is 280 metres (300 yards) away from the Woodside Ferry Terminal. The terminal was constructed as an interchange for passengers who going to/coming from Liverpool via the Mersey Ferry. Woodside was main bus terminus in Birkenhead. However, it has declined in importance due to the opening of another Mersey Tunnel and an improvement in the Wirral Line (Liverpool Loop) rail link in the 1970s.
Wirral Tramway
Wirral Tramway is a heritage tramway opened in 1995 by the Wirral Borough Council and Hamilton Quarter partnership and was operated by Blackpool Transport Services until 2005 when the council took over the license to run the tramway. The Wirral Transport Museum and tramway were set up with the assistance of The Hamilton Quarter and various volunteer groups including Merseyside Tramway Preservation Society, 201 Bus Group and the Merseyside Bus Club.
