Alderton Tunnel
The Alderton Tunnel sits on the South Wales Main Line on a stretch of line between Swindon and Bristol Parkway. It is 506 yards long. It was opened on 1 January 1903 along with the line between Wootton Bassett and Badminton, that being the first section of the South Wales & Bristol Direct Line of the Great Western Railway. Building of the tunnel commenced at least two years before 1903 as the rise in railway workers boarding in Alderton village can be seen in the 1901 UK Census.
Church of the Holy Cross, Sherston
The Church of the Holy Cross is the Anglican church in the village of Sherston, Wiltshire. It is Norman and contains many interesting religious items, including remains of Norman wall decoration, and a crucifix donated to the church by Italian soldiers during World War II. Sung Eucharist is held at the church every Sunday at 9.30 am and the church is also open every day for silent prayer. It is a thriving church that attracts many families to the services.
St Arild's Church, Oldbury-on-the-Hill
St Arild's Church, Oldbury-on-the-Hill, is a redundant Anglican church near the village of Oldbury-on-the-Hill, Gloucestershire, England. It has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade II* listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. The church is dedicated to Arilda, a female saint who was a virgin and a martyr. This is one of only two churches dedicated to her, the other being nearby at Oldbury-on-Severn.
