The Vale of Pewsey or Pewsey Vale is an area of Wiltshire, England to the east of Devizes and south of Marlborough, centred on the town of Pewsey.
Dew pond
A dew pond is an artificial pond usually sited on the top of a hill, intended for watering livestock. Dew ponds are used in areas where a natural supply of surface water may not be readily available. The name dew pond (sometimes cloud pond or mist pond) is first found in the Journal of the Royal Agricultural Society in 1865. Despite the name, their primary source of water is believed to be rainfall rather than dew or mist.
Hill figure
A hill figure is a large visual representation created by cutting into a steep hillside and revealing the underlying geology. It is a type of geoglyph usually designed to be seen from afar rather than above. In some cases trenches are dug and rubble made from material brighter than the natural bedrock is placed into them. The new material is often chalk, a soft and white form of limestone, leading to the alternative name of chalk figure for this form of art.
Milk Hill
Milk Hill, located near Alton Priors east of Devizes, is the highest point in the county of Wiltshire, southwest England, at some 295 m / 968 ft above sea level (the adjacent Tan Hill rises to 294 m). It is the location of the Alton Barnes white horse (a hill figure cut in 1812). On 23 August 2009, the BBC programme Countryfile featured an item on analysis by Ordnance Survey to determine whether Milk or Tan Hill is the highest.

Battle of Woden's Burg (592)
The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records a battle fought in the year 592 at Woden's Burg, the neolithic long barrow now known as Adam's Grave, near Marlborough, Wiltshire. The year entry states: Her micel wælfill wæs æt Woddes beorge, 7 Ceawlin wæs ut adrifen. (There was great slaughter at Woden's hill, and Ceawlin was driven out. ) Ceawlin was king of Anglo-Saxon Wessex.
Battle of Woden's Burg (715)
The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records a battle fought in the year 592 at Woden's Burg, the neolithic long barrow now known as Adam's Grave, near Marlborough, Wiltshire. The entry states: Her Ine 7 Ceolred fuhton æt Woddes beorge. (There Ine and Ceolred fought at Woden's hill. ) Ine was king of Anglo-Saxon Wessex and Ceolred was king of Anglo-Saxon Mercia. The identity of the opposing force is not recorded. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle also records an earlier battle on the same site.
Adam's Grave
Adam's Grave was a Neolithic long barrow in Wiltshire, southwest England. It was destroyed in the Early Modern period. There is a breast shaped hill in the spot. In the Anglo-Saxon period it was known as "Woden's Burg" and the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle records two battles at the site in 592 and 715.
