British European Airways Flight 548
British European Airways Flight 548 was a scheduled passenger flight from London Heathrow to Brussels on 18 June 1972 which crashed soon after take-off, killing all 118 people on board. The accident became known as the Staines disaster and remained the deadliest air disaster in Britain until the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988.

Staines was a local government district from 1894 to 1974 around the town of Staines. Apart from Staines itself, it also covered Ashford, Laleham and Stanwell. In 1894, under the Local Government Act 1894, Staines was created an urban district of Middlesex. It originally just covered the parish of Staines. In 1930 the parishes of Ashford, Laleham and Stanwell were added from the disbanded Staines Rural District.

Staines Bridge is a road bridge running in a south-west to north-east direction across the River Thames in Surrey. It is on the modern A308 road and links the boroughs of Spelthorne and Runnymede at Staines-upon-Thames and Egham Hythe. The bridge crosses the Thames on the reach between Penton Hook Lock and Bell Weir Lock, and is close to and upstream of the main mouth of the River Colne, a tributary. The bridge carries the Thames Path across the river.
Staines Railway Bridge
Staines Railway Bridge crosses the River Thames in England in a northeast to southwest direction at Staines-upon-Thames, Surrey. It crosses the Thames on the reach between Penton Hook Lock and Bell Weir Lock. The bridge carries the South West Trains Waterloo to Reading Line and the London Waterloo to Weybridge service and lies between Staines and Egham stations. The bridge was completed in 1856.
Staines High Street railway station
Staines High Street railway station formerly served the town of Staines-upon-Thames, on the Windsor & Eton line of the London and South Western Railway. It was opened on 1 July 1884 and closed on 1 February 1916 and was built for trains using the West Curve. When passenger services no longer ran via that chord, it became redundant however it remained in use for freight traffic until the mid 1960s after which the embankment was removed. A multi-level car park stands on the site of the chord.
Staines West railway station
Staines West railway station was a station in the town of Staines, 19 miles from central London. The station was opened on 2 November 1885 as Staines, the southern terminus of the Staines & West Drayton Railway when the London and South Western Railway refused to have a connection to its line. It was located alongside Pound Mill in Moor Lane and converted from the conveniently sited house of a mill owner. It was renamed Staines West on 26 September 1949.
River Wraysbury
River Wraysbury is a river in England that branches off the River Colne at West Drayton and rejoins it at Staines before it flows into the River Thames. The river leaves the River Colne at West Drayton and runs under the M4 motorway until close to Longford when it passes under the M25 motorway. A branch then feeds the Colne Brook by the Poyle Channel while the Wraysbury River runs along the M25, crossing back under it by the Wraysbury Reservoir.
