Denbies Wine Estate
Denbies Wine Estate near Dorking, Surrey has the largest vineyard in England with 265 acres under vines, representing over 10% of the plantings in the whole of the United Kingdom. It has a visitors' centre which attracts around 300,000 visitors a year. The estate is named for an early owner called John Denby. Originally Denbies was a farmhouse. In the mid 18th century it was rebuilt as a gentleman's residence by Jonathan Tyers, proprietor of Vauxhall Gardens near London.
Deepdene (garden)
Deepdene was an estate and country house, located in Dorking, Surrey, England. Originally a property of the Duke of Norfolk, it was sold by the 11th Duke of Norfolk in 1807 to the Hope banking family. The house was remodeled by the architect, William Atkinson, for the banker, Thomas Hope, and the work completed in 1819; it was occupied by his son, the MP Henry Hope from c. 1840. The gardens were laid out in a contemporary Italianate picturesque style.
