Wotherton
Wotherton is a hamlet in west Shropshire, close to the Welsh border. It is in the civil parish of Chirbury with Brompton. Its name, mentioned as a manor in Domesday means, roughly, "settlement at a woodland ford"; the road through the village crosses a small stream. The Wotherton Barytes Mine operated here until 1911.

The Long Mountain is a hill to the east of Welshpool in Powys, Wales, crossing the national boundaries of England and Wales and the county boundaries of Powys and Shropshire. It rises to a height of 408m at Beacon Ring, where there is a hill fort. The Long Mountain extends from Forden, Powys, in the southwest to Vennington near Westbury in Shropshire to the northeast.
Battle of Cefn Digoll
The Battle of Cefn Digoll, also known as the Battle of the Long Mynd, was a battle fought in 630 at Long Mountain near Welshpool in modern-day Wales. The battle was fought between the Northumbrian army of King Edwin of Northumbria an anti-Northumbrian alliance between King Cadwallon of Gwynedd and Penda of Mercia. The battle ended Northumbrian domination of Gwynedd, and preceded a Welsh campaign into Northumbria, which led to Edwin's death at the Battle of Hatfield Chase.
Siege of Exeter (c.630)
According to some early medieval sources, the Siege of Exeter or Siege of Caer-Uisc was a military conflict that took place in or around 630 CE, between the Mercians, led by Penda of Mercia, and the Britons occupying Caer-Uisc in the kingdom of Dumnonia. Penda is said to have laid siege to the town until the exiled British High King Cadwallon of Gwynedd, arrived to confront him.

The B4386 road passes through the village. The border with Powys is close by.
