Strinesdale Reservoir
Strinesdale is a reservoir situated on the A62 between Oldham and Delph in Greater Manchester, England. The town of Rochdale is to the north and the town of Oldham to the south. Strinesdale is an area of water and woodland covering approximately 40 acres (162,000 m²). In 1991, the reservoirs were drained and replaced by two smaller lakes with the old reservoir sites being planted with trees and grassland.

Shaw National Distribution Centre (also known as Shaw NDC) is the main distribution and order processing centre for British retailer Shop Direct Group, and is located in Shaw and Crompton, a town in Greater Manchester, England. Shaw NDC is a "state-of-the-art facility" which "stores over 1,000,000 sq ft of products", ready for delivery through the group's distribution arm, Business Express. Shaw NDC spans 23 acres, making it one of Europe's largest warehouse distribution centres.
List of mills in Shaw and Crompton
This is a list of textile factories that have existed in Shaw and Crompton, formerly of Lancashire and now in Greater Manchester, England. From the Industrial Revolution until the 20th century, Crompton (as it was then mainly known) was a major centre of textile manufacture, particularly cotton spinning. During this period, it was dominated by large rectangular brick-built factories, some of which still remain today as warehouses or distribution centres.

Oldham Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) is an expulsion school located on Broadbent Road, Watersheddings, Oldham. Oldham PRU supports pupils, aged between 10 and 16, who are unable to access mainstream school, including those with behaviour problems, or have been permanently excluded, or those who cannot attend for medical reasons. In July 2009 the school was deemed to be "outstanding" by board inspectors.

Rutland Mill
Rutland Mill was a cotton spinning mill on Linney Lane, in Shaw and Crompton, Greater Manchester, England. It was built by F. W. Dixon & Son in 1907 for the Rutland Mill Co. Ltd. It was taken over by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation in the 1930s. By 1964, it was in the Courtaulds Group. In the late 1980s, as Courtaulds moved operations to other parts of the world, the mill was bought by Littlewoods who demolished it and replaced it with a new automated storage warehouse.

Hawk Mill, Shaw is a cotton spinning mill in Shaw, Oldham, Greater Manchester. It was built in 1908. It was taken over by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation in the 1931 and passed to Courtaulds in 1964. The machinery was scapped in 1964c, and the mill demolished in 1991.
Dawn Mill, Shaw
Dawn Mill, Shaw is a cotton spinning mill in Shaw and Crompton, Oldham, Greater Manchester. It was built on the site of Shaw Mill at the "dawn" of the 20th century. Dawn Mill was equipped with mule weft spindles in 1950. It was powered by Engines named Venus and Mars, 1800 hp twin tandem compound engine by George Saxon of Manchester. It was taken over by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation in the 1930s and passed to Courtaulds in 1964.
Newby Mill, Shaw
Elm Mill, is a four storey cotton spinning mill in Shaw and Crompton, Greater Manchester. It was built in 1890 for the Elm Spinning Company Ltd. , and closed in 1928, when it was revived by the Lancashire Cotton Corporation (1929) and called Newby Mill. LCC and all their assets passed to Courtaulds in 1964. Production at Newby finished in 1970, and it was used for warehousing. Subsequently, now named Shaw No 3 Mill, it became part of Littlewood's Shaw National Distribution Centre.
2012 Oldham explosion
The 2012 Oldham explosion occurred on 26 June 2012. A house on Buckley Street in Shaw, a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, England exploded at 10:40am. Thirteen neighbouring houses were damaged in the blast amounting to £1.2m of damage. 175 homes were evacuated. 30 firefighters were at the site of the blast. A two-year-old boy was killed and one man injured. A gas leak was reported before the explosion.
