Elton and Orston railway station
Elton and Orston railway station (formerly Elton railway station) serves the villages of Elton and Orston in Nottinghamshire, England. The station is owned by Network Rail and managed by East Midlands Trains (EMT) Train Operating Company (TOC) who also provide all rail services. The station is unstaffed and offers limited facilities other than two shelters, bicycle storage, timetables and modern 'Help Points'.
Aslockton Castle
Aslockton Castle was in the village of Aslockton, Nottinghamshire. A motte and bailey fortress was built in the 12th century. Only the earthworks now remain. The motte is called Cranmer's Mound and stands about 16 feet high. To the south east two rectangular platforms enclosed by ditches are the sites of later houses of the Cranmer family. Archbishop Cranmer was born here .
Orston
Orston is a small village in Nottinghamshire, England nearby to Thoroton, Elton on the Hill and Bottesford. The name Orston is thought to originate from the Old English Ordricestune which means 'the farmstead of Ordric" Ordric was the leader of the small settlement. Some early references to the settlement are Oschintone 1086 (the Domesday Book), Orskinton 1242, Orston 1284 and Horston 1428. Although there are gypsum quarries in the area, Orston was once primarily a mining village.
