Cadbury Hill
Cadbury Hill is a small hill, mostly in the civil parish of Congresbury, overlooking the village of Yatton in North Somerset. On its summit stands an Iron Age hill fort, which is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
Black Down, Somerset
Black Down is the highest hill in the Mendip Hills, Somerset, in south-western England. Black Down lies just a few miles eastward of the Bristol Channel at Weston-super-Mare, and provides a view over the Chew Valley. The summit is marked with an Ordnance Survey trig point, the base of which has been rebuilt by the Mendip Hills AONB authority. The shortest route of ascent goes from the Burrington Combe car park and is approximately 1 km long.
Aveline's Hole
Aveline's Hole is a cave at Burrington Combe in the limestone of the Mendip Hills, in Somerset, England. The earliest scientifically dated cemetery in Britain was found at Aveline's Hole. The human bone fragments it contained, from about 21 different individuals, are thought to be between roughly 10,200 and 10,400 years old. A series of inscribed crosses found on the wall of the Aveline's Hole cave are believed to date from the early Mesolithic period just after the Ice Age.
Cleeve Toot
Cleeve Toot is an Iron Age hillfort above Goblin Combe, Cleeve, Somerset, England. It is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. It is a roughly oval settlement which is approximately 125 metres in length by 90 metres in breadth. Approximately 150 metres to the north is another, smaller settlement. They are thought to have been a satellite community of nearby Cadbury Hill Pits have been found at the site indicating the presence of round houses.
Pierre's Pot
Pierre's Pot is a cave in Burrington Combe on the Mendip Hills in Somerset, England. The cave was discovered in 1983 and has two main levels, the lower level being reached through an extremely tight rift. There is an active streamway and sump which, following a 15 m dive, leads to another streamway and a number of passages. The derivation of the cave's name is from one of the nicknames of Mike "Fish" Jeanmarie of the Axbridge Caving Group in the early 1960s.
Church of St John the Baptist, Churchill
The Church of St John the Baptist in Churchill, Somerset, England, was largely built around 1360 and is a Grade I listed building. There was a Norman chapel on this site in 1180, from which the nave has survived into the present church. The stone font dates from around 1200, although the wooden font cover was added in 1879 when there was a revival in gothic designs. The stained glass windows are from a variety of periods.
Tyning's Barrow Swallet
Tyning's Barrow Swallet is a cave between Charterhouse and Shipham in the limestone of the Mendip Hills, in Somerset, England. The cave is close to GB Cave and also to Charterhouse Cave, the deepest cave in the region. Tyning's Barrow Swallet is 1.29 km in length and reaches a depth of 132 m .
