Gartree Hundred

Thorpe Langton
Thorpe Langton (derived from the Anglo-Saxon word for an enclosure, meaning "long town") is a village and civil parish in the Harborough district of Leicestershire, about four miles north of Market Harborough. The parish had a population of 171 according to the 2001 census. Thorpe Langton is the home of the Baker's Arms pub and St. Leonard's church, but is otherwise solely residential.
Market Harborough Rural District
The rural district of Market Harborough existed in Leicestershire, England, from 1894 to 1974. It covered the area around Market Harborough, but not including it. It was greatly extended by the abolition of Hallaton Rural District in 1935. In 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972 it merged with Harborough urban district, Billesdon Rural District, Lutterworth Rural District to form the Harborough non-metropolitan district.
East Langton railway station
East Langton railway station was opened by the Midland Railway on what is now the Midland Main Line in 1857, initially calling it simply Langton. Plans had been made earlier in 1847 for a line from Leicester to Bedford, but had lapsed. However the Midland, running to Rugby at that time and dependent on the LNWR for its path into London, was looking for an alternative.
Market Harborough rail accident
The accident occurred when a vehicle driven by Simon Handy plunged off the A6 near Market Harborough, Leicestershire on the morning of 22 March 2005. The car was hit by the 05:21 Sheffield to London St. Pancras Midland Mainline service that was carrying about 100 passengers. Mr Handy managed to escape from his car before the train hit with only minor facial injuries and was taken to Kettering General Hospital.
Knave Hill
Knave Hill is an archaeological site near the village of Stonton Wyville, Leicestershire, in the English East Midlands. It was excavated by Channel 4's Time Team, who found evidence of settlement dating back some 1400 years, including Iron Age, Roman and Anglo-Saxon periods. It appears that the site was abandoned as the population concentrated into villages, leaving the land free for cultivation.
