Whitstable

Whitstable is a seaside town in Northeast Kent, Southeast England. It is approximately 8 kilometres north of the city of Canterbury and approximately 3 kilometres west of the seaside town of Herne Bay. It is part of the City of Canterbury district and has a population of about 30,000. Whitstable is famous for its oysters, which have been collected in the area since at least Roman times. The town itself dates back to before the writing of the Domesday Book.

Whitstable railway station

Whitstable railway station is on the Chatham Main Line in north Kent, England, and serves the town of Whitstable. Train services are provided by Southeastern. The first station on the line to serve the town was called Whitstable Town and was opened in 1860 and was sited about half mile west of the present station in Oxford Street. It was closed in 1915 when the present station was opened as Whitstable & Tankerton.

Whitstable Harbour railway station

|} Whitstable Harbour railway station was the name of the disused railway station serving Whitstable the terminus of the Canterbury and Whitstable Railway. The line approached the harbour between Station Road and Clare Road, before curving west to the Harbour station around Tower Parade, and then the railway continued onto the harbour itself.

Hampton-on-Sea

Hampton-on-Sea was a drowned and abandoned village in what is now the Hampton area of Herne Bay, Kent. It grew from a tiny fishing hamlet in 1864 at the hands of an oyster fishery company, was developed from 1879 by land agents, abandoned in 1916 and finally drowned due to coastal erosion by 1921. All that now remains is the stub of the original pier, the Hampton Inn, and the rocky arc of Hampton-on-Sea's ruined coastal defence visible at low tide.

Hampton, Herne Bay

Hampton, Herne Bay is the coastal west end of Herne Bay, Kent. Formerly the site of the village of Hampton-on-Sea, the settlement is now underwater due to coastal erosion, but it was on the west side of the northern end of Hampton Pier Avenue, between the 1959 sea defences and the remains of the sea wall which are exposed at low water in Hampton bay.
