Great Storm of 1703
The Great Storm of 1703 was the most severe storm or natural disaster ever recorded in the southern part of Great Britain. It affected southern England and the English Channel on the 26–27 November (December 7–8 in the modern calendar). Observers at the time recorded barometric readings as low as 973 millibars, but it has been suggested that the storm may have deepened to 950 millibars over the Midlands.
Chappetts Copse
Chappetts Copse is a beech woodland in the Meon Valley, Hampshire. It is managed as a nature reserve by the Hampshire Wildlife Trust. It does not have any statutory protection, such as SSSI status. It contains the largest population in Britain of Sword-leaved Helleborine (Cephalanthera longifolia), with more than 2000 plants, as well as other orchids includes White Helleborine, Bird's-nest Orchid and Fly Orchid.
East Hampshire AONB
East Hampshire Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in England was designated in 1962. The designation was revoked in March 2010, together with the neighbouring Sussex Downs AONB, upon the establishment of the South Downs National Park. The southern part of the area is mainly rolling chalk downland used for farming that is a westward extension of the Sussex Downs. The north and east includes steep wooded hills and heathland.
