Hamble railway station

Hamble railway station is an unstaffed railway station near the village of Hamble-le-Rice, England. It is served by a 2-track electrified line which joins the Southampton to London main line, in the direction of Southampton at St Denys in Southampton, and joins the line running east from Eastleigh at Fareham. Stopping services between Portsmouth and Southampton call at Hamble station approximately hourly. The station is adjacent to a bridge carrying Hamble Lane.

Hamble Rail Trail

The Hamble Rail Trail is a 4.5 miles long circular footpath in Hampshire, southern England, comprising a path which runs alongside a disused railway track that connects Hamble-le-Rice to Royal Victoria Country Park and part of the Solent Way. The railway track in question was constructred during the First World War to transport aircraft from Manchester to Hamble-le-Rice. A siding was built as part of the railway to serve the flying boat factory in Hamble.

HMS Cricket (shore establishment)

HMS Cricket was the name given to a Royal Navy shore establishment on the River Hamble from 1943 to 1946. This name was previously used by the Insect class gunboat, HMS Cricket that was scrapped in 1942. HMS Cricket was commissioned on 15 July 1943. Initially it was a "Royal Marine Landing Craft Crew Training Base". It was established as an independent command with accounts being handled by HMS Shrapnel. The base was later used to assemble troops and landing craft in the build-up to D-day.
