Battle of Alton
The Battle of Alton (also Storm of Alton), of the First English Civil War, took place on 13 December 1643 in the town of Alton, Hampshire, England. There, Parliamentary forces serving under Sir William Waller led a successful surprise attack on a winter garrison of Royalist infantry and cavalry serving under the Earl of Crawford.

Chawton House is a grade ll* listed Elizabethan manor house in the village of Chawton in Hampshire. It was formerly the home of Jane Austen's brother, Edward Austen Knight, and is now a library and study centre. In 1992 a 125-year lease on the house was purchased for £1.25 million by a foundation established by Sandra Lerner and Leonard Bosack, co-founders of Cisco Systems.

The Municipal Ground (today known as Jubilee Playing Fields) is a cricket ground in Alton, Hampshire. The ground was constructed as a result of the efforts of G.J. Poole, the headmaster of a local Grammar School. Constructed by 1899, the Hampshire Second XI played there in 1899 in the grounds first recorded match, while Hampshire later played one first-class match at the ground, against the touring South Africans in 1904.

Alton Abbey
Alton Abbey is an Anglican Benedictine Monastery (founded in 1895) in the village of Beech, near Alton, Hampshire, England. The community was founded by The Rev Charles Plomer Hopkins in 1884 as the Society of Saint Paul in Rangoon, Burma) and Culcutta to work with destitute or distressed merchant seafarers and their chaplains. The first house was opened in 1894 in Barry Dock, South Wales (now closed) to continue this work.
