Cotswold Water Park
The Cotswold Water Park is the United Kingdom's largest marl lake system. The lakes were created over the last 50 years by extraction of glacial Jurassic limestone gravel,which had eroded from the Cotswold Hills, and these filled naturally after working ceased in the early 1970s. It is not a water fun park, as the name might suggest. It is a significant area for wildlife and particularly for wintering and breeding birds.
South Cerney
South Cerney is a village and civil parish in the Cotswold district of Gloucestershire, 3 miles south of Cirencester and close to the border with Wiltshire. It had a population of 3,074 according to the 2001 census. It was founded in 999 by Saxon settlers, with a charter by King Aethelred II. South Cerney was winner of the best kept village award, (big villages) for 2001.
Somerford Keynes
Somerford Keynes is a small village in Gloucestershire, close to the River Thames and Thames Path a couple of miles from its source and close to the Cotswold Water Park. It is on the boundary with Wiltshire midway between Cirencester, Swindon and Malmesbury. The first beavers to be born in Britain for 400 years were born at Lower Mill in the summer of 2008. Somerford Keynes is also the name of a character in the Rutshire Chronicles books by Jilly Cooper.
