Thorrington

Thorrington is a village and civil parish in the Tendring district of Essex, England. It lies 5 km east of Wivenhoe and 3 km north of Brightlingsea. The striking medieval flint church is dedicated to Mary Magdalene, and the patrons of the church are St John's College, Cambridge. On the west side, the Tenpenny Brook forms the parish boundary between Thorrington and Alresford. At the point where the brook flows into the Alresford Creek (a branch of the Colne Estuary) stands Thorrington Mill.

St Osyth Heath

St Osyth Heath is a hamlet in the Tendring District, in the county of Essex. Until the mid 1900`s, The Heath was a thriving community with shops, various self employed tradesman and The Beehive Public House. Today all this has disappeared, with the pub now converted into an Indian Restaurant. The Bareham family were the local butchers, whilst the Beales were hurdle and broom makers. Both families like the rest of the community eventually moved into the main village of St Osyth,

St. Osyth's Abbey (or St Osyth's Priory) was a house of Augustinian canons in the parish of St. Osyth, Chich, in Essex, England. Founded by the Richard de Belmeis, Bishop of London, circa 1121, it became one of the largest monasteries in Essex and was dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul as well as St. Osyth. Bishop Richard obtained the arm bone of St. Osyth from Aylesbury for the monastic church and granted the canons the parish church of St. Osyth.
