Abberton Reservoir
Abberton Reservoir is an artificial body of water located close to the coast of Essex in the east of England. It is 5 miles south-west of Colchester near the village of Layer de la Haye. Its geographical coordinates are {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:51|49.2|N|00|51.6|E|region:GB_type:waterbody|| | |name= }}. The reservoir is the fourth largest reservoir in England with an area of 4.9 square kilometres .
Langenhoe
Langenhoe is a village in the Colchester district of Essex, England to the south of Colchester. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 536. The village church was once reputed to be amongst the most haunted buildings in Essex. This ancient church, which had been damaged in the Essex earthquake of 1884, was closed to worship in 1955 and demolished in 1963 after it was deemed structurally unsafe.
The Strood
The Strood is a causeway crossing the marshes and the Strood Channel between the coast of Essex in the south east of England and Mersea Island. About half a mile (800 metres) in length, it carries the B1025 Mersea to Colchester road and is the only road access to the island. It is regularly inundated at high tide; local people carry a tide table to avoid being trapped on the wrong side.
1884 Colchester earthquake
The Colchester earthquake, also known as the Great English Earthquake, occurred on the morning of 22 April 1884 at 09:18. It caused considerable damage in Colchester and the surrounding villages in Essex. In terms of overall destruction caused it is certainly the most destructive earthquake to have hit the United Kingdom in at least the last 400 years, since the Dover Straits earthquake of 1580.
Ray Island
Ray Island is a sandy mound rising out of the saltings close to Mersea Island, Essex, England. It has a shingly foreshore/beach area on its northern side, with a sizeable freshwater pond nearby, and extensive areas of rough grassland. On higher ground, there are blackthorn thickets and some old hawthorns. The southern edge of the island has some natural transition areas of saltmarsh-grassland-scrub.

Great Wigborough is a village in the Colchester borough of Essex, England, and forms part of Winstred Hundred civil parish. The hamlet of Stafford's Corner lies to the northwest of the village on the B1026 road.

Peldon is a village in the Colchester borough of Essex, England and forms part of the Winstred Hundred civil parish. It is near the villages of Little Wigborough and Langenhoe. The parish church is dedicated to St Mary the Virgin and is a grade 1 listed building. Peldon was significantly damaged by the 1884 Colchester earthquake. Peldon also had two windmills. It was in the Winstree hundred.
