Battle of Maldon
The Battle of Maldon took place on 10 August 991 near Maldon beside the River Blackwater in Essex, England, during the reign of Aethelred the Unready. Earl Byrhtnoth and his thegns led the English against a Viking invasion. The battle ended in an Anglo-Saxon defeat. After the battle Archbishop Sigeric of Canterbury and the aldermen of the south-western provinces advised King Aethelred to buy off the Vikings rather than continue the armed struggle.

Maldon Marine Lake is a lake in Maldon, a small historic town on the estuary of the River Blackwater in Essex, England has been renowned for its promenade park with its salt water lake. The lake was created in 1905 and greatly added to the attraction of the area, making it a popular tourist venue. The attraction being that one could swim, no matter what the state of the tide in the adjacent estuary.

Northey Island
Northey Island is an island in the estuary of the River Blackwater, Essex. It is linked to the south bank of the river by a causeway, covered for two hours either side of high tide. The island is approximately 2 km to the east of Maldon, Essex and 2 km to the west of Osea Island. The whole island and part of the bank near the causeway are now a Nature Reserve. It is uninhabited apart from the warden. The Battle of Maldon, 991 is believed to have taken place on the south bank near the island.
River Chelmer
The River Chelmer is a river that flows entirely through the county of Essex, England. The source of the river is near Debden Green, a village near Thaxted. The source of the River Can is also nearby. The River Chelmer flows past Thaxted, south through the district of Uttlesford around the northeast of Great Dunmow. It continues flowing south-southeast into the borough of Chelmsford and on into the town of Chelmsford where the River Can flows into it.

It was on a single track branch line from Maldon to Woodham Ferrers which opened on 1 October 1889; the station closed on 10 September 1939, and the line closed in 1953. Cooks Yard
Walter Cook established a Thames sailing barge building business in 1894 on the bank of the River Blackwater at Maldon, Essex, England. The business, known as Walter Cook and Son, operated until the 1980s - at which time, it was the last remaining barge yard in Britain. In 1999, Topsail Charters took on the lease of the yard and refurbished it. They restored boatbuilding and barge repair to the site and maintain the last set of original barge repair blocks on the east coast of England.
