Torre railway station
Torre station is a suburban station on the Riviera Line in Torquay, Devon, England. The station is operated by First Great Western but is not staffed; except for one evening train it is only served by local services.
Coffinswell
Coffinswell is a small village in South Devon, England, just off the A380, the busy Newton Abbot to Torquay road. It lies within Teignbridge District Council. Coffinswell has a church dedicated to Saint Bartholomew with a Norman font. Near the church is Court Barton, a manor house of partly 16th century date; the southern part of which was used as a court house by Torre Abbey. The village lies in a rural valley surrounded by farmland, and has many traditional Devon cob and thatch cottages.
Disused railway stations (Riviera Line)
|} The railway branch line from Newton Abbot to Kingswear in Devon, England, is unusual as a large majority of the stations are still open for traffic. Of the eleven stations, seven are still open so there are only four disused railway stations on this line, a much lower proportion than most similar lines that do not serve big cities. The South Devon Railway opened a branch line to Torquay on 18 December 1848.
Shiphay
Shiphay is a district in the north of Torquay. It has population of about 6,000 and is the location of two grammar schools, three primary schools, the District Hospital, also of Torquay’s fire station. Being mostly built-up there is little to attract the tourist, though Cockington and other attractions are within easy reach. The name is said to be from Saxon origin, meaning "sheep enclosure", the original hamlet being at the boundary of the sheep rearing lands of Torre Abbey.
Milber Down
Milber Down is an Iron Age hill fort on the hill above the suburb of Milber, Newton Abbot in Devon, England. The fort is situated on the north-western slope of Milber Down at about 110 metres above sea level, and is bisected by the minor ridge road that leads to Barton, Torquay. One Iron Age artefact discovered there was a figurine of a stag.
Torbay Hospital
Torbay Hospital is South Devon's main hospital. It is run by the South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Torbay Hospital Chapel is Grade II listed and was designed by the architect Charles Holden and when the Hospital was built in 1925 (to the designs of Percy Adams). The Chapel opened in 1930.
Aller Vale Pottery
The Aller Vale Pottery was formed in 1865 on the northern edge of the village of Kingskerswell in South Devon, England on the likely site of a medieval pottery. It became well known for the creation of art pottery at the end of the 19th century and gained Royal patronage, but declined thereafter, closing on this site in about 1924. The name continued in use until 1962 related to the production of mass-produced mottoware for the tourist market.
