Upper Goyt Valley

The Upper Goyt Valley is the valley of the River Goyt in north west England. The western side of the valley is a long ridge, running from Shining Tor to Windgather Rocks, which forms the county boundary between Derbyshire and Cheshire; the boundary formerly followed the river itself. The eastern side of the valley consists of Burbage Edge, overlooking Buxton, and Combs Moss.

Bugsworth Basin

Bugsworth Basin is a canal basin at the terminus of the Peak Forest Canal. It is located at Buxworth (formerly Bugsworth) in the valley of the Black Brook, close to Whaley Bridge. It was once a busy interchange with the Peak Forest Tramway, for the transport of limestone and burnt lime. Work on the restoration of the derelict Bugsworth Basin, a Scheduled Ancient Monument since 1977, commenced in 1968.

Peak Forest Tramway

The Peak Forest Tramway was an early horse- and gravity-powered industrial railway system in Derbyshire, England. Opened for trade on 31 August 1796, it remained in operation until the 1920s. Much of the route and the structures associated with the line remain. The western section of the line is now the route of the Peak Forest Tramway Trail. The tramway was originally planned to be about 4 miles long from Chapel Milton to Dove Holes.

Fernilee Reservoir

Fernilee Reservoir is a drinking-water reservoir in the Peak District National Park, within the county of Derbyshire and very close to the boundary with Cheshire. The reservoir was the first of two reservoirs built in the Goyt Valley, the other being Errwood Reservoir. It was constructed by the Stockport Water Corporation at a cost of £480,000, with work being completed in 1938. It is currently owned and operated by United Utilities.

Furness Vale railway station is 15+⁄4 miles south east of Manchester Piccadilly on the Manchester to Buxton line in England. This station has a level crossing at the end of the platform controlled by Furness Vale Signal Box which is situated just next to the crossing. The station is on the Stockport, Disley and Whaley Bridge line, originally built by the London and North Western Railway to connect with the Cromford and High Peak Railway and extended to Buxton in 1863.

Todd Brook

Todd Brook is a small river running through the English counties of Cheshire and Derbyshire. The Brook rises beneath Shining Tor on the border between the two counties and flows northwards through east Cheshire, passing by Kettleshulme before turning east, forming the border between Cheshire and Derbyshire for a short distance before filling Toddbrook Reservoir in Derbyshire. The brook flows into the River Goyt at Whaley Bridge.

Toddbrook Reservoir

Toddbrook Reservoir was built in 1831 as a feeder for the Peak Forest Canal. It is sited above the town of Whaley Bridge in the High Peak, Derbyshire. The reservoir is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). It provides habitat for herons, ducks and other animals and fish. Also rare mosses and liverworts grow on its shores, particularly short-lived species that grow on seasonally exposed mud. The reservoir is also used for sailing and angling.
