Great Wilne
Great Wilne is a small village in Derbyshire, England on the border with Leicestershire. It is 7 miles south east of Derby. It is a village split from its church of St Chad's by the river. The church is at the very small hamlet of Church Wilne which can only be approached by a short walk via the bridge over the River Derwent, or by a fair car journey which necessitates travelling out of the county.
South East Derbyshire Rural District
South East Derbyshire was a rural district in Derbyshire, England from 1894 to 1974. It covered an area to the south-east of Derby. It was formed as Shardlow rural district under the Local Government Act 1894, mainly from the Derbyshire part of the Shardlow rural sanitary district. It also administered the parishes of Ratcliffe on Soar and Kingston on Soar in Nottinghamshire - these became part of Leake Rural District in 1927. The district was renamed South East Derbyshire in 1959.
Donington Castle
Donington Castle was in the village of Castle Donington in Leicestershire to the north of East Midlands Airport. This early 12th century castle was held by the de Lacy family. It was attacked around the time of the Magna Carta. In 1311 it passed to Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, the cousin of Edward II and eventually become Crown property. Any remains have now been incorporated into Donington House.
Cavendish Bridge
Cavendish Bridge is the name of a bridge over the River Trent, and a hamlet, on the border between Leicestershire and Derbyshire. It once carried the main London-Manchester turnpike, though a modern dual carriageway has now been built to the south bypassing the location.
Shardlow Hall, Derbyshire
Shardlow Hall is a 17th century former country house at Shardlow, Derbyshire now in use as commercial offices. It is a Grade II* listed building which is officially listed on the Buildings at Risk Register. The house was built in 1684 for Leonard Fosbrooke, originally to an H-plan design with two storeys with parapets and a six-bay entrance front. A series of six Leonard Fosbrookes succeeded to the estate, two of whom served as High Sheriff of Derbyshire.
Aston Hall, Aston-on-Trent
Aston Hall is an 18th century country house, now converted to residential apartments, at Aston-on-Trent, Derbyshire. It is a Grade II* listed building. At the time of the Norman conquest, Aston-on-Trent was part of the Manor of Weston which was granted by the Crown to the Earl of Chester and by him to the Abbey of St Werburgh at Chester. Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the Manor was granted to Sir William Paget.
Donington Hall
Donington Hall is a house and residential 1,100-acre estate in Castle Donington, North West Leicestershire, located close to the city of Derby. The Hall served as the headquarters for the airline British Midland International until it was merged into British Airways on 28 October 2012.
