Duffield Bank Railway
The Duffield Bank Railway was built by Sir Arthur Percival Heywood in the grounds of his house on the hillside overlooking Duffield, Derbyshire in 1874. Although the Ordnance Survey map circa 1880 does not show the railway itself, it does show two tunnels and two signal posts.
Breadsall Priory
Breadsall Priory is a former priory in Derbyshire situated some two kilometres north of Breadsall. It was a house of the Friars Eremites, founded, it is said, by the Dethick family, about the middle of the 13th Century, and subsequently converted into an Augustinian priory. Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1536 the site was granted by the Crown to the Duke of Suffolk.
Horston Castle
Horston Castle (sometimes spelt Horeston) is about 1 mile to the south of the village of Horsley, some 5 miles north of the English city of Derby. The ruinous site is a Scheduled Ancient Monument but, as at 2008, is a Building at Risk. It was a Norman motte and bailey castle which was founded by Ralph de Buron. In the 13th century King John built a stone castle, adding a keep, a chapel, a gatehouse and a barbican.
Duffield Hall
Duffield Hall is a 17th century country house situated in the Amber Valley, Derbyshire, which is now the headquarters of the Derbyshire Building Society. It is a Grade II* listed building. The manor of Duffield was granted by King Charles I to the Newton family who built a new mansion house there in the 1620s. The Newtons sold the house to Henry Coape, High Sheriff of Derbyshire in 1703. His granddaughter and heiress brought the estate to her husband Henry Porter.
Breadsall railway station
Breadsall railway station was a former railway station in Breadsall, Derbyshire. It was opened by the Great Northern Railway (Great Britain) on its Derbyshire Extension in 1878.
Allestree Hall
Allestree Hall is a 19th century former country house situated in Allestree Park, Allestree, Derby. It is a Grade II* listed building but has been unoccupied for many years, and has been placed on the Buildings at Risk Register now the Heritage at Risk Register. The Mundy family owned the Manor of Allestree from 1516 until Francis Noel Clarke Mundy sold it to Thomas Evans in 1781. It was later the home of William Evans and of his son Sir Thomas William Evans, 1st Baronet.
Coxbench Hall
Coxbench Hall is a late 18th-century country house, now in use as a residential home for the elderly, situated at Holbrook, Amber Valley, Derbyshire. It is a Grade II listed building. The Manor of Coxbench was held anciently by the Franceys family until the daughter and heiress of the last male Franceys married William Brooks. Their grandson William Brooks Johnson MD (1763–1830) replaced the old manor house with the present house built by John Chambers of Horsley Woodhouse.
St Alkmund's Church, Duffield
Saint Alkmund's Church is a church dating back to the first millennium, situated on the banks of the River Derwent to the south of Duffield, Derbyshire. It is the parish church of Duffield and associated with the nearby church of St Paul's in Little Eaton. In times past the Parish of Duffield was much larger than it is now, covering the area known as Duffield Frith.
