East Westmorland Rural District

East Westmorland was the name of a rural district in the administrative county of Westmorland from 1894 to 1935. The district was created by the Local Government Act 1894 based on the former East Ward rural sanitary district, and therefore indirectly on the former East Ward of Westmorland. The district entirely surrounded the municipal borough of Appleby, situated in the north-west of the district. Settlements in the district included Kirkby Stephen and Brough under Stainmore.

River Belah

The River Belah is a river in the county of Cumbria in England. The Belah is formed by the confluence of several small streams or sikes draining most of north and south Stainmore close to the border with County Durham and Yorkshire. It flows west with South Stainmore to north and Kaber parish to the south. The river is swollen by Argill Beck at Field Head and the Powbrand Beck near Thorney Scale. Having washed by Brough Sowerby, the Belah combines its waters with those of the River Eden.

Waitby

Waitby is a small village and civil parish in the Eden district of Cumbria, England. The parish contains two small villages, Waitby and Smardale, plus the small hamlets of Riddlesay, Stripes and Leases, all of which are in the farmed and enclosured northern part at an elevation of around 200–300m. The southern half of the parish is mostly heath and unused for agriculture, it rises to Smardale fell; which it includes, at elevations between 300 and 400m.

The Crosby Garrett Helmet is a copper alloy Roman cavalry helmet dating from between the late 1st and mid 3rd century AD. It was found by an unnamed metal detectorist near Crosby Garrett in Cumbria, England, in May 2010, close to a Roman road, but distant from any recorded Roman settlements. The helmet is thought to have been used for ceremonial occasions rather than for combat.
