Wasdale

Wasdale is a valley and civil parish in the western part of the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, England. The River Irt flows through the valley to its estuary at Ravenglass. A large part of the main valley floor is occupied by Wastwater, the deepest lake in England (258 feet). Sailing and motorboats aren't permitted on the Lake but you can canoe and it is very popular for divers.

River Bleng

The River Bleng is a tributary of the River Irt in the county of Cumbria in northern England. The river gives its name to the valley that it flows through which is called Blengdale. It is thought that the name Bleng is derived from the Old Norse word blaeingr, which translates as dark water, so Blengdale would mean the valley of the dark river. The river rises at Stockdale Head in the Lake District, it then flows south and then east towards its confluence with the river Irt.

Murthwaite Halt railway station is a small intermediate railway station on the 15" gauge Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway in Cumbria. It is named after the (now ruined) farm that stood in the field opposite the railway. The railway serviced the Murthwaite stone crushing plant, built in the 1920s to crush granite from the quarries further up the railway's valley.

Irton Pike

Irton Pike is a hill in the west of the English Lake District, near Santon Bridge, Cumbria. It is the subject of a chapter of Wainwright's book The Outlying Fells of Lakeland. It reaches 751 feet and Wainwright's walk is an anticlockwise circuit from Irton Road station on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, near Eskdale Green. He describes "this tiny top" as "a near-perfect solace for reminscences of past happy days on the higher fells", adding "Climb Irton Pike while ye may!"
