Cartmel Priory Gatehouse

Cartmel Priory Gatehouse is a National Trust property located at Cartmel, Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria, England. Along with the church, the gatehouse is all that remains of the Augustinian Cartmel Priory. The priory was founded in 1190 whereas the gatehouse was built about 1330. In 1536 the Priory was dissolved as part of the general reformation of Church. Most of the monastic property was demolished, but the gatehouse was by that time serving as courthouse for the manor of Cartmel, so survived.

River Eea

The River Eea is a small river in the Lake District, Cumbria, England running through the Furness region, which was once part of Lancashire. The River Eea is a relatively short system that arises from numerous small becks and streams throughout the Cartmel Valley. Its course is approximately 10 km long and the mouth is on Sand Gate marshes near Flookburgh, between Barrow and Kendal. It principally flows in a south-westerly direction.

Cartmel Racecourse

Cartmel Racecourse is a small racecourse in the village of Cartmel, now in the Ceremonial County of Cumbria, historically in Lancashire. Meetings are held on the May and August Bank Holidays. Although the racecourse is small, it is noted as having a four furlong run-in, the longest in Britain. For a small racecourse Cartmel attracts relatively huge crowds of 20/25,000. The earliest written account of racing at Cartmel dates back to 1856. The course was supported by local landowners.

L'Enclume (meaning "the anvil") is a restaurant located in Cartmel, Cumbria, England. In 2008, the restaurant held one star in the Michelin Guide. In 2012, the restaurant held two star in the Michelin Guide In the 2013 edition of the The Good Food Guide, L'Enclume shared a perfect score of ten with Heston Blumenthal's The Fat Duck. Humphrey Head

Humphrey Head is a limestone outcrop situated between the villages of Allithwaite and Flookburgh. It is whale-back-shaped and accessible for walkers, giving views over Morecambe Bay to Lancaster, Morecambe, Heysham and over the Leven estuary to Ulverston. There is an Ordnance Survey trig point at the top. It is the home of an Outdoor Centre for TQ Education and Training (closed 2011).
