Benfieldside is a parish in County Durham, in England. Although not a village in its own right (ecclesiastically it incorporates Shotley Bridge, Bridgehill and much of Blackhill), it is signposted and locally known. The parish church, which is dedicated to St. Ebba is of ambiguous origin, being of partly Norman construction with a foundation, described as being pre-Conquest. Much of the stone in the walls and doorway had been taken from Roman rubble of the fort of Vindomora, on which most of the village is located.

Low Westwood
Overview[edit] Low Westwood is an idyllic North Durham hamlet which joins onto the small village of Hamsterley. Low Westwood is probably best known for its sizeable rest home. The River Derwent flows at the bottom of the valley, and separates the nearby villages of Blackhall Mill and Chopwell. Known until recently as Hamsterley Colliery due to the large Mining Colliery which was situated to the south of the village along the southern banks of River Derwent.
