Durgan
Durgan (Cornish: Dowrgeun, meaning otters) is a hamlet in the parish of Mawnan, south Cornwall, United Kingdom. It is situated beside the Helford River four miles (6 km) south of Falmouth. The hamlet consists of approximately 15 properties, many owned by the National Trust, and has a permanent population of 10. The majority of the properties are second homes or holiday lets. Durgan has a beach popular with boaters, swimmers and holiday makers.
Helford River
The Helford River is a ria (flooded river valley) in Cornwall, United Kingdom. It is fed by a number of small streams into its many creeks. There are seven creeks on the Helford; from west to east these are Ponsontuel Creek, Mawgan Creek, Polpenwith Creek, Polwheveral Creek, Frenchman's Creek, Port Navas Creek, and Gillan Creek, the best known of which is Frenchman's Creek, made famous by Daphne du Maurier in her novel of the same name.
Glendurgan Garden
Glendurgan Garden (Cornish: Glynn Dowrgeun, meaning deep valley of otters) is a National Trust garden situated above the hamlet of Durgan on the Helford River in Mawnan Smith, near Falmouth, Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. Glendurgan Garden was laid out by Alfred Fox in the 1820s and 1830s. In 1962 Glendurgan Garden was given to the National Trust by Cuthbert and Philip Fox. The garden is notable for a cherry laurel maze, created in 1833.

Maenporth
Maenporth (Cornish: Meyn Borth, meaning stones cove) is a cove and beach in west Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated approximately two miles (3 km) south-southwest of Falmouth on the estuary of the River Fal. Maenporth cove faces east across Falmouth Bay with views towards Pendennis Castle and the lighthouse on St Anthony Head. The South West Coast Path runs through Maenporth. Behind the cove, wetland supports varied birdlife including the Grey Heron and the Little Egret.

Mawnan (Cornish: Maunan, meaning St Maunan) is a civil parish in south Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated in the former administrative district of Kerrier and is bounded to the south by the Helford River, to the east by the sea, and to the west by Constantine parish. The population was 1,454 in the 2001 census.
St Anthony-in-Meneage
St Anthony-in-Meneage is a coastal civil parish and village in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The parish is in the Meneage district of The Lizard peninsula. In the 2001 census the parish had a population of 171. The village is situated on a peninsula between the Helford River and Gillan Harbour on the west side of Falmouth Bay, five miles (8 km) south of Falmouth and seven miles (11 km) east of Helford at grid reference SW 782 256.
The Gear Rout
The Gear Rout was a Cornish insurrection of 1648 following the end of the English Civil War. It involved some 500 Cornish rebels who fought on the Royalist side against the Parliamentarian forces of Sir Hardress Waller. Cornish forces had fought on the Royalist side in the defence of the Duchy against the New Model Army in the Civil War and had perceived it as a war of national liberation against the English Parliament, which the Cornish ultimately lost.
