Grove, Buckinghamshire
Grove is a tiny village in the parish of Slapton, Buckinghamshire, England. It is on the border with Bedfordshire, just to the north of Mentmore. It is the size of some hamlets, but it is distinct as a village because it had its own parish church. The place name is fairly self-explanatory, as it means 'grove', or a copse of trees. It was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Grova, and was considered a separate village even then.
River Ouzel
The River Ouzel, also known as the River Lovat, is a river in England, and a tributary of the River Great Ouse. It rises in the Chiltern Hills and flows 20 miles north to join the Ouse at Newport Pagnell. It is usually called the River Ouzel, except near Newport Pagnell where both names are used. The name Lovat was recorded (in the form "Lovente") in the thirteenth century, a map of 1724 marks the river as "Lowsel R", and a map surveyed in 1765 shows it as "Ouzel River".
Grand Junction Canal
The Grand Junction Canal is a canal in England from Braunston in Northamptonshire to the River Thames at Brentford, with a number of branches. The mainline was built between 1793 and 1805, to improve the route from the Midlands to London, by-passing the upper reaches of the River Thames near Oxford and by shortening the journey. The canal was bought by the Regent's Canal and from 1 January 1929 now forms the southern half of the Grand Union Main Line from London to Birmingham.
Cheddington railway station
Cheddington railway station serves the village of Cheddington, near Mentmore in Buckinghamshire, England. It also serves a number of surrounding villages, most notably Ivinghoe. The station is 36 miles/58 km north west of London Euston on the West Coast Main Line. It is operated by London Midland, which also provides all services. The station has four platforms, each with 12 carriage capacity, but only platforms 3 and 4 are used regularly. Platforms 2 and 3 form a centre island.
Page's Park railway station
Pages Park railway station is a railway station serving the southern area of Leighton Buzzard. Pages Park is the terminus of the heritage narrow gauge Leighton Buzzard Railway. At present the station consists of two platforms, a shed and a number of temporary buildings acting as the waiting room, ticket office and cafe. There are plans to develop the station, but these can only proceed when the station site is secured.
RAF Stanbridge
RAF Stanbridge is an RAF station situated on the outskirts of Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, England and located 1.6 miles west of the village of Stanbridge, Bedfordshire It is a satellite site of RAF Henlow and is one of the smallest RAF Stations which looks after the Supply Central Computer System.
Leighton Buzzard Light Railway
The Leighton Buzzard Light Railway (LBLR) is a narrow gauge light railway in Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire, England. It operates on a 24 gauge, and is just under 3 miles long. The line was built after the First World War to serve sand quarries north of the town. In the late 1960s the quarries switched to road transport and the railway was taken over by volunteers, who now run the line as a heritage railway.
