BBC Radio Lancashire is the BBC Local Radio service for the county of Lancashire, in North West England. It began as BBC Radio Blackburn on 26 January 1971 on 96.4FM, then adding 854 kHz AM in 1972 and changing to its current name on 4 July 1981. It broadcasts from studios in Blackburn on 95.5, 103.9, 104.5 (Lancaster) FM and 855 (Riley Green near the A6061 between Preston and Blackburn, near junction 3 of the M65), 1557 AM, DAB and RealPlayer via the website.

Blackburnshire was a hundred, an ancient sub-division of the county of Lancashire, in northern England. Its chief town was Blackburn, in the northwest of the hundred. It covered an area similar to modern East Lancashire, including the current districts of Ribble Valley (excluding the northern part, which was then in Yorkshire), Pendle (excluding West Craven, which was in Yorkshire), Burnley, Rossendale, Hyndburn, and Blackburn with Darwen.

Diocese of Blackburn
The Diocese of Blackburn is a Church of England diocese, covering much of Lancashire, created on 12 November 1926 from part of the Diocese of Manchester. The Diocese includes the towns of Blackburn, Blackpool, Burnley, and the cities of Lancaster, and Preston, as well as a large part of the Ribble Valley. The cathedral is Blackburn Cathedral and the Diocesan See is currently vacant following the retirement of The Rt Revd Nicholas Reade, Bishop of Blackburn, appointed in 2004.
Blackburn Rural District
Blackburn was a rural district in Lancashire from 1894 to 1974. It was named after, but did not include Blackburn, which was an independent county borough. It surrounded Blackburn on the north and western sides, and also included an exclave on the south-eastern side of Blackburn, consisting of the parishes of Yate and Pickup Bank and Eccleshill. It was created in 1894 under the Local Government Act 1894. It lost the parish of Witton to Blackburn in the 1930s.

Blackburn was a large parish in Lancashire, England. The parish had numerous townships and chapelries, which were administered separately from the core Blackburn area, and became recognised as separate civil parishes in 1866. Lewis Textile Museum
The Lewis Textile Museum was bequeathed to the people of Blackburn by a local cotton industrialist, Thomas Boys Lewis (1869–1936). The Lewis Textile Museum was closed in 2006 and a new gallery with its collection of looms and textile machinery was moved to Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery. The gallery which now houses the exhibits at the main Museum & Art Gallery was named CottonTown and opened in April 2007 by Jack Straw, the local Labour MP.
