Darton is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, on the border with West Yorkshire. According to the 2001 UK census, it has a population of approximately 14,927. Formerly part of the now defunct Barnsley West and Penistone borough constituency, following the Boundary Commission for England's report on South Yorkshire's Parliamentary constituencies in 2004 and the subsequent inquiry in 2005, it is now part of the Barnsley Central borough constituency.

Woolley Colliery
Woolley Colliery is a village on the edge of the Barnsley and Wakefield districts in Yorkshire, England. The village itself is in South Yorkshire whilst the former colliery is situated in West Yorkshire. Union leader Arthur Scargill started work at the colliery aged 14 in 1953. The village is known locally as 'Mucky Woolley', a tribute to its coal mining heritage and to distinguish it from the more affluent village of Woolley situated 2 miles away.

It grew up as a pit village and had its own colliery until 1968. Thereafter, Woolley Colliery became the main source of employment until its closure in 1987. Haigh suffered from significant decline for several years afterwards. It is now a commuter village for the large towns and cities of Yorkshire.
