Hualien County
Hualien County is the largest county in Taiwan in terms of area, and is located on the mountainous eastern coast of Taiwan. It contains the Port of Hualien. It is the starting point of the Hualien-Taitung Line railroad and the terminal point of North-Link Line of Taiwan Railway Administration. In terms of the Provincial Highway System, Hualien County is connected to other counties via the Suhua Highway, Huatung Highway, Hualien-Taitung Coast Highway and the Central Cross-Island Highway.

Hualien Airport (花蓮機場) is a commercial airport located in an 11.5-hectare civilian area of a military airbase in Hualien, Taiwan. It primary serves domestic flights although it can handle international charter flights as well. The proximity of Hualien Airport to a military base has caused some tension between travelers, airline officials, and the Republic of China Air Force, especially when civilian flights are cancelled due to war games exercises.
Tzu Chi University
Tzu Chi University, or TCU, is a private university located in Hualien City, Hualien County, Taiwan. It was founded by the Tzu Chi Foundation and is famous in Taiwan for the quality of the medical education it provides. TCU has strong ties with Hualien Tzu Chi General Hospital (located on the same premises as the university) as well as five teaching hospitals in other parts of Taiwan.

Port of Hualien
The Port of Hualien is one of the international ports in Hualien County, Taiwan. It is located in Hualien City, facing the Pacific Ocean in the east. It is an artificial harbor build in 1930–1939, protected by breakwaters. There are 25 wharves in Hualien Port. The annual container volume is about 13 million tons. The port mainly transports local gravel, cement, and marble. It also develops tourism and leisure industry, such as cruises and whale-watching boats.
