Lake Lugano
Lake Lugano (Italian: Lago di Lugano or Ceresio) is a glacial lake which is situated on the border between south-east Switzerland and Italy. The lake, named after the city of Lugano, is situated between Lake Como and Lago Maggiore. It was cited for the first time by Gregory of Tours with the name Ceresio in 590 AD, a name which is said to have derived from the Latin word cerasus, meaning cherry, and refers to the abundance of cherry trees which at one time adorned the shores of the lake.

Campione d'Italia is an Italian comune (municipality) of the Province of Como in the Lombardy region, being an Italian exclave within the Swiss canton of Ticino, separated from the rest of Italy by Lake Lugano and mountains. The enclave is less than 1 km at the shortest point from the rest of Italy, but the hilly terrain requires a journey by road of over 14 km to reach the nearest Italian town, Lanzo d'Intelvi, and over 28 km to reach the city of Como.

The American School In Switzerland (TASIS) is a private school that receives elementary, middle, and high school students from many different nations and provides them with a Western-based education. Located in Montagnola, a small town above Lugano, Ticino, Switzerland, it has a current student body of about 600 pupils, many of whom are boarders. TASIS was founded 1956 by M. Crist Fleming; she is also responsible for the founding of The American School In England, a sister school to TASIS.
Montagnola
Montagnola is a small Swiss village in Collina d'Oro municipality. Located in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino, it is close to the border between Switzerland and Italy. It looks over Lake Lugano and the city of Lugano upon it. It falls within the local parish of Sant'Abbondio Gentilino. Landmarks include the house where Herman Hesse lived for half of his life, a house where George Harrison went for health reasons and The American School In Switzerland (TASIS), a boarding school.
Casinò di Campione
The Casinò di Campione is the largest employer in Campione d'Italia, an Italian exclave within Switzerland's Canton of Ticino, on the shores of Lake Lugano. The casino was founded in 1917 as a site to gather information from foreign diplomats during the First World War, is owned by the Italian government, and operated by the municipality. The income from the casino is sufficient for the operation of Campione without the imposition of taxes, or obtaining of other revenue.

Pazzallo
Pazzallo is a quarter of the city of Lugano in the Swiss canton of Ticino. Pazzallo was formerly a municipality of its own, having been incorporated into Lugano in 2004. Pazzallo lies on the slopes of Monte San Salvatore, uphill of the independent municipality of Paradiso that forms an exclave within the city of Lugano. Whilst the original nucleus lies on the higher slopes, the lower western slopes, towards the Lugano-Sud junction on the A2 motorway, are now more populous.

Agnuzzo
Agnuzzo is a village in the municipality of Muzzano, Canton of Ticino, Switzerland. The village borders Lake Lugano between Agno and Montagnola on the northern end of the lake's western spur. The current population is around 730. Agnuzzo is host to a portion of the TCS (Touring Club Switzerland) la Piodella campground and a station for the Lugano-Ponte Tresa FLP (Ferrovia Lugano- Ponte Tresa).
Monte San Salvatore funicular
The Monte San Salvatore funicular, or Funicolare Monte San Salvatore, is a funicular railway near the city of Lugano in the Swiss canton of Ticino. The line links a lower station in the Lugano suburb of Paradiso with an upper station at the summit of the Monte San Salvatore. The top yields a 360° panorama with views of the city, Lake Lugano, Monte Generoso and the Italian enclave of Campione. The line was built in 1890, and originally used an Abt rack rail for braking.
Capolago-Riva San Vitale railway station
Capolago-Riva San Vitale is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Ticino. The station is in the village of Capolago, part of the municipality of Mendrisio, but, as its name suggests, also serves the adjoining municipality of Riva San Vitale. The station is on the Swiss Federal Railways' Gotthard railway, between Lugano and Chiasso, and on the Monte Generoso railway, a rack railway to the summit of Monte Generoso.

Lugano-Paradiso is a railway station in the in the municipality of Paradiso in the Swiss canton of Ticino. The station is on the Gotthard railway of the Swiss Federal Railways, between Lugano and Chiasso. The station is served by the following passenger trains: The Monte San Salvatore funicular crosses above Lugano-Paradiso railway station on a bridge. Its lower terminal is some 350 metres walk to the north of the station.
Melide causeway
The Melide causeway, sometimes called the Melide bridge or Melide dam, is a causeway and bridge across Lake Lugano in the Swiss canton of Ticino. It links the communities of Melide and Bissone, and provides the only internal land connection between the southern section of Ticino, around Mendrisio and Chiasso, and the rest of Switzerland. Today the causeway carries the Gotthard railway, the A2 motorway, and a main road.

The station is the lower terminus of the line, and provides interchange with ships of the Società Navigazione del Lago di Lugano at an immediately adjacent jetty on Lake Lugano.
