Simplon (department)
Simplon was the name of a département of the First French Empire. It is named after the Simplon Pass. It was formed in 1810, when the Rhodanic Republic was occupied by the French. Its territory corresponds with that of the present Swiss canton of Valais. The capital of Simplon département was Sion. The département was subdivided into the following arrondissements and cantons: Sion, cantons: Hérémence, Leuk, Sierre and Sion. Brig, cantons: Brig, Goms, Mörel, Raron and Visp.

Les Masses
Les Masses is a small ski resort town in Val d'Herens. Les Masses is part of the municipality of Hérémence, Valais, Switzerland. It is in the Four Valleys ski area, in the easternmost part, at 1500 metres altitude. Les Masses was formerly an area with a few barns and shooting sheds. It is still a very quiet place. The houses are nearly all wooden chalets, with only a few apartment buildings no higher than three or four floors.

Thyon (also known as Thyon 2000) is a ski resort in the Swiss Alps, located in the canton of Valais. The resort is situated in the central part of the canton, in the region of Sion, above Hérémence. Thyon lies at a height of 2,095 metres above sea level, on the ridge descending from Mont Rouge. The resort can be accessed by a road from Veysonnaz or Hérémence or by cable car from Veysonnaz.
