Sigtuna Municipality

Sigtuna Municipality (Sigtuna kommun) is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Märsta. The municipality is a part of Metropolitan Stockholm. The municipality consists of a lot of former local government units and was formed in 1971. Life Guards (Swedish Army)

The Life Guards is a combined cavalry/infantry regiment of the Swedish Army, with responsibility for training. Almarestäket

Almarestäket, or Stäket, is a strait at the inlet of Lake Mälaren in mid-east Sweden. A fortress existed there between about 1370 and 1517, also named Almarestäket. A place mentioned as Stocksund by Old Norse author Snorre Sturlasson was once believed to be located here, but is now believed to have been located in Norrström, 2 km to the west.

Kvistaberg Observatory

The Kvistaberg Observatory (Kvistabergs observatorium) is an observatory in Sweden belonging to the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Uppsala University and located between Uppsala and Stockholm, at almost equal distance from both cities. Skokloster Castle

Skokloster Castle is located on Lake Mälaren between Stockholm and Uppsala. It was built in the Baroque style between 1654 and 1676 by the wealthy military commander and count Carl Gustaf Wrangel. The castle was designed by architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder. When Wrangel died, the castle passed into the hands of the Brahe family. In 1967 the castle and its contents were sold by the family to the Swedish government; the family still resides here but part of the estate is now run as a museum.
