Varberg Fortress (Varbergs fästning) is a former fortification in Varberg, Halland County, Sweden .
Ny Varberg
Ny Varberg (New Varberg) was a city founded sometime between 1429 and 1434 about five kilometres north of present-day Varberg, Sweden. It was abandoned around 1612. The city was located at a crossroads where the roads from Småland and Västergötland met the royal road through Halland. To have access to the sea, a canal 700 metres long was built between Kattegat and Himleån. It is unclear who founded the city or why.
Getterön
Getterön is a peninsula in Varberg Municipality, Halland County, Sweden, immediately northwest of the municipal seat Varberg. Getterön was an island until 1936, when the sound between Getterön and the mainland was filled out and a road was built.
Halland Museum of Cultural History
Halland Museum of Cultural History is a museum of cultural history in Varberg, Sweden. It is situated in the Varberg Fortress. The museum was formerly known as Varberg County Museum . The name was changed in 2011. The most important and famous object at the museum is the remains of a man murdered during the fourteenth century, Bocksten Man. The museum also shows a button claimed to be the bullet that killed Carl XII.
Gamla Varberg
Gamla Varberg is a nature reserve in Varberg Municipality, Sweden. It was established in 1966. The nature reserve consists of a hill with the same name and the surrounding area. It is located at the Kattegat. From the top of the hill, there is a beautiful view over the sea and the island Balgö. In earlier times, the hill worked as a beacon hill. On the top, there is a cairn from the Bronze Age. For a long time, Gamla Varberg and it's surroundings was a grazed outfield.
Getterön Nature Reserve
Getterön Nature Reserve is a nature reserve at Getterön in Varberg Municipality, Sweden. It consists of parts of the peninsula Getterön and an area to the north. It has an area of 350 hectares, of which 235 are land. The reserve was established in 1970. Getterön Nature Reserve is protected as a Natura 2000 site and included in the Ramsar list. Getterön Nature Reserve is one of northern Europe's premier birdwatching sites.
Western Getterön Nature Reserve
Western Getterön Nature Reserve is a nature reserve at the westernmost part of Getterön in Varberg Municipality, Sweden. It consists of a peninsula which is popularly known as Stora Gubbanäsan ("The Great Old man's nose"), and the surrounding part of the Kattegat. The nature reserve has an area of 183 hectares, of which 53 are land. It was established in 1974.
