Unity High School (Sudan)

Unity High School, founded in 1928, but with roots going back to 1902, is an independent school in Khartoum, Sudan, which uses the English language and provides a British-style education to children from 4 to 18 years of age. Acropole Hotel

The Acropole is a hotel. It was founded in 1952 and is run by the Greek Pagoulatos family - brothers Thanasis, George, and Mike. The Acropole is the oldest hotel in Khartoum, founded by the brothers' father in 1952. An added attraction is the OHM electronics shop next door, which is owned by the brother of Sheikh Musa Hilal, the tribal leader of Darfur's notorious Janjaweed. Several journalists and members of human rights organizations have managed to interview Hilal in that shop.

National Museum of Sudan

The National Museum of Sudan, founded in 1971, is the national museum of Sudan, located on El Neel Avenue in Khartoum. The double storied building was constructed in the 1955, and established as the National Museum of Sudan in 1971. It contains the largest and most important archaeological collection in the country. The museum has exhibits from different epochs of the Sudanese history such as Kingdom of Kush and ancient Nubia, and also ancient Egypt.

Tuti Bridge

The Tuti Bridge in Khartoum is considered to be the first suspension bridge to be constructed in Sudan and one of the first constructed in Africa. The design of the bridge and its construction depend upon technology to which Sudan is not accustomed. The bridge is actually a series of bridges proposed that will connect the cities of Khartoum, Omdurman and Bahri, and will help to alleviate traffic throughout the cities. The development will immediately commercialize the isolated Tuti Island.

Aksha, Sudan

Aksha is an ancient Egyptian temple, rebuilt in part at the National Museum of Sudan in Khartoum. The temple was built around 1250 BC by Ramses II. It is situated in the far north of present-day Sudan, a few kilometers south of Faras, on the west side of the Nile. On the temple walls, several sacrifices are depicted. The location of the temple was not well chosen, as it is only a few inches above the high tide of the Nile.

Yarmouk munitions factory explosion

On Tuesday 23 October 2012 at midnight local time there was an explosion at the Yarmouk munitions factory, south of Khartoum, Sudan. The factory had been built in 1996. According to Khartoum state governor Abdel Rahman Al-Khidir the explosion probably happened at the main storage facility. The resulting fire resulted in the death of two people and one person being injured. According to Sudanese opposition, the arms factory belonged to Iran's Revolutionary Guard.
