Khartoum
Khartoum is the capital and second largest city of the Republic of Sudan and of Khartoum State. It is located at the confluence of the White Nile flowing north from Lake Victoria and the Blue Nile flowing west from Ethiopia. The location where the two Niles meet is known as the "al-Mogran", meaning the Confluence. The main Nile continues to flow north towards Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea.
Sudan
Sudan, officially the Republic of the Sudan and sometimes called North Sudan, is an Arab state in North Africa bordered by Egypt to the north, the Red Sea to the northeast, Eritrea and Ethiopia to the east, South Sudan to the south, the Central African Republic to the southwest, Chad to the west and Libya to the northwest. Internally, the Nile divides the country into eastern and western halves.
Al-Shifa pharmaceutical factory
The Al-Shifa (الشفاء, Arabic for "healing") pharmaceutical factory in Khartoum North, Sudan, was constructed between 1992 and 1996 with components imported from the United States, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, India, and Thailand. The industrial complex was composed of around four buildings. It was the largest pharmaceutical factory in Khartoum and employed over 300 workers, producing medicine both for human and veterinary use.
Cruise missile strikes on Afghanistan and Sudan (August 1998)
The August 1998 bombings of Afghanistan and Sudan (codenamed Operation Infinite Reach by the United States) were American cruise missile strikes on terrorist bases in Afghanistan and a pharmaceutical factory in Sudan on August 20, 1998. The attack was in retaliation for the bombings of American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania which killed 224 people (including 12 Americans) and injured 5,000 others.

University of Khartoum
University of Khartoum (formerly shortened to UofK) is a multi-campus, co-educational, public university located in Khartoum. It is the largest and oldest university in Sudan. UofK was founded as Gordon Memorial College in 1902 and established in 1956 when Sudan gained independence. Since that date, the University of Khartoum has been recognized as a top university and a high-ranked academic institution in Sudan and Africa.
Unity High School (Sudan)
Unity High School, founded in 1928, but with roots going back to 1902, is an independent school in Khartoum, Sudan, which uses the English language and provides a British-style education to children from 4 to 18 years of age. In 2005, it had an enrollment of some 750 pupils. It had Mrs Stephanie King as a vice principal from the year 2008 onwards, the director of the School was Mr Robert Boulos and the principal was Richard Woods.
Khartoum North
Khartoum North (al-Kharṭūm Baḥrī ) is a city close to, but distinct from, Khartoum in central Sudan. The city is close to the confluence of the White and Blue Niles on the eastern bank of the Blue Nile. The city, which had in 1993 a rapidly growing population of 900,000, is connected by bridges to Khartoum and Omdurman. It is known also as "Bahrī", referring to the Northern coast in Egyptian Arabic. Khartoum International Airport is an airport in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan. It will be replaced with a new airport 40 kilometers south of the centre of Khartoum. This is planned to have two 4000 metre runways, a passenger terminal of 86,000 square metres and a 300-room international hotel.
Acropole Hotel
The Acropole is a hotel. It was founded in 1952 and is run by the Greek Pagoulatos family - brothers Thanasis, George, and Mike. The Acropole is the oldest hotel in Khartoum, founded by the brothers' father in 1952. An added attraction is the OHM electronics shop next door, which is owned by the brother of Sheikh Musa Hilal, the tribal leader of Darfur's notorious Janjaweed. Several journalists and members of human rights organizations have managed to interview Hilal in that shop.
Corinthia Hotel Khartoum
The Corinthia Hotel Khartoum is a five-star hotel in central Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, on the meeting point of the Blue Nile and White Nile and in the centre of Khartoum’s commercial, business, and administrative districts. It is located next to the Friendship Hall of Khartoum and the Tuti Bridge. The hotel was opened on the 17th August 2008. It has 18 guest floors, 173 rooms and 57 suites, all offering panoramic views of Khartoum and the Nile.
Tuti Island
Tuti Island (also spelled Tutti Island) is an island in Sudan where the White Nile and Blue Nile merge to form the main Nile. It is surrounded by the "Three Towns": Khartoum (the capital of Sudan), Omdurman (the largest city in Sudan), and Khartoum North (also known as Bahri, a large industrial center). Despite this, Tuti is home to only one small village (founded in the late 15th century), with grassland being the main makeup of the island.
Mac Nimir Bridge
The Mac Nimir Bridge links Khartoum, Sudan with Khartoum North across the Blue Nile river. It is named after a famous leader of the Jaaliyeen tribe in Northern Sudan who infamously burned the son of Muhammad Ali Pasha, Ismail, and his cortege when they invaded Sudan from Egypt.
Tuti Bridge
The Tuti Bridge in Khartoum is considered to be the first suspension bridge to be constructed in Sudan and one of the first constructed in Africa. The design of the bridge and its construction depend upon technology to which Sudan is not accustomed. The bridge is actually a series of bridges proposed that will connect the cities of Khartoum, Omdurman and Bahri, and will help to alleviate traffic throughout the cities. The development will immediately commercialize the isolated Tuti Island.

Sudan Airways Flight 109 was an international scheduled Amman–Damascus–Khartoum passenger service, operated with an Airbus A310-300, that crashed on landing at Khartoum International Airport on 10 June 2008, approximately at 17:00 UTC, killing 30 of 214 occupants on board.
