Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte (Sinhala: ශ්රී ජයවර්ධනපුර කෝට්ටේ, Tamil: ஶ்ரீ ஜெயவர்த்தனபுரம் கோட்டை), also known as Kotte කෝට්ටේ / கோட்டை, is a large suburb of the capital Colombo and is the parliament site of Sri Lanka. It is located beyond the Colombo city centre and is often called New Capital Territory. It is the current Capital City of Sri Lanka.
Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu Stadium
Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu Stadium (Sinhala: පාකියසොති සර්වනමූත්තු ක්රීඩාංගනය, Tamil: பாக்கியசோதி சரவணமுத்து மைதானம்; aka Colombo Oval or P. Sara) is a multi-purpose stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It is currently used mostly for cricket matches. The stadium holds 15,000 and hosted its first Test match in 1982. It is named after Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu, a former civil servant and first President of the Board of Control for Cricket.

Welikadawatte
Welikadawatte, a middle-class housing estate in Rajagiriya, Sri Lanka, was a result of the first co-operative housing scheme in Sri Lanka. In the mid-1950s, Dr. Seneka Bibile, together with Herbert Keuneman, 'Bonnie' Fernando, Anil and Jeanne Moonesinghe and other members of the radical intelligentsia, founded Sri Lanka's first co-operative housing scheme, the Gothatuwa Building Society.

Veluwana college (කොළඹ වේළුවන විද්යාලය) in Dematagoda was established May 1, 1952 by the Buddhist Society led by Veluwanarama temple. It is one of oldest Buddhist schools in Sri Lanka. Veluwana College is a National School. It provides primary and secondary education.
Welikada Prison
The Welikada Prison (also known as the Magazine Prison) is a maximum security prison and is the largest prison in Sri Lanka. It was built in 1841 by the British colonial government under Governor Cameron. The prison covers and area of 48 acres . It is over-crowded with about 1700 detainees exceeding the actual member that could be accommodated. The prison also has a gallows (although not used since 1959) and has its own hospital too. The prison is administrated by the Department of Prisons.

The Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), is a convention center located in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Built between 1970 and 1973 the convention center was a gift from the People's Republic of China in memory of Solomon Ridgeway Dias Bandaranaike, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka (Ceylon) from 1956 to 1959.

Siege of Kotte (1557–58)
The Siege of Kotte from November 1557 – November 1558 was a battle part of the Sinhalese–Portuguese War. A 50,000 strong Sitawaka army led by King Mayadunne besieged Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte, the capital of Kotte Kingdom for 12 months against a combined force of Portuguese and lascarins led by Captain major Dom Afonso Pereira de Lacerda. After receiving reinforcements from Mannar, Portuguese made a sally and succeeded in forcing the besiegers to withdraw.
2012 Welikada prison riot
The Welikada prison riot was a prison riot that occurred on 9 November 2012 at Welikada Prison in Sri Lanka. The riot broke out during a search for illegal arms. The riot left 27 people dead and 40 injured. The government has appointed a committee to investigate the riot. Welikada Prison, which has around 4,000 prisoners, has witnessed a number of violent riots in its history.
