Black Stone
The Black Stone is the eastern cornerstone of the Kaaba, the ancient stone building toward which Muslims pray, in the center of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is revered by Muslims as an Islamic relic which, according to Muslim tradition, dates back to the time of Adam and Eve. The stone was venerated at the Kaaba in pre-Islamic pagan times. It was set intact into the Kaaba's wall by the Islamic prophet Muhammad in the year 605 A.D. , five years before his first revelation.
Ajyad Fortress
The Ajyad Fortress was an Ottoman citadel which stood on a hill overlooking the Grand Mosque of Mecca, in what is now Saudi Arabia. Built in the late 18th century, it was destroyed by the Saudi government in 2002 for commercial development of the Mecca Royal Hotel Clock Tower, sparking global outcry.
Hira
Hira or the Cave of Hira (غار حراء Ġār Ḥirāʾ ) is a cave about 2 mi from Mecca, on the mountain named Jabal al-Nour in the Hejaz region of present day Saudi Arabia. The cave itself is about 12 ft in length and 5 ft 3 in in width. It is notable for being the location where Muslims believe Muhammad received his first revelations from God through the angel Jabril, also known as Gabriel to Christians.
Al-Safa and Al-Marwah
Al-Safa and Al-Marwah (Safa and Marwah) are two small mountains now located in the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia between which Muslims travel back and forth seven times during the ritual pilgrimages of Hajj and Umrah.

The 2006 Mecca hostel collapse occurred in Mecca, Saudi Arabia on 5 January 2006. A hostel housing Muslim pilgrims performing Hajj collapsed, killing 76 people and injuring 62.
Mina, Saudi Arabia
Mina (Also known as the Tent City) is a neighborhood of Mecca in Makkah Province, in western Saudi Arabia. It is situated 5 kilometers to the east of the Holy city of Mecca. It stands on the road from Mecca's city centre to the Hill of Arafat. It covers an area of approximately 20 km². Mina is best known for the role it plays during the annual Hajj pilgrimage. There are more than 100,000 air-conditioned tents which provide temporary accommodation to visiting pilgrims.
Jamaraat Bridge
The Jamaraat Bridge is a pedestrian bridge in Mina, Saudi Arabia near Mecca used by Muslims during the stoning of the devil ritual of the Hajj. The bridge was originally constructed in 1963, and has been expanded several times since then. The purpose of the bridge is to enable pilgrims to throw stones at the three jamrah pillars from either the ground level or from the bridge. The pillars extend up through three openings in the bridge. Until 2006 the bridge had a single tier (i.e.
Muzdalifah
Muzdalifah is an open, level area near Mecca in Saudi Arabia associated with the Hajj. It lies just southeast of Mina on the route between Mina and Arafat. Each year on the 9th day of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah, after an afternoon of prayer at Arafat, Muslim pilgrims visit Muzdalifah in the evening. Because of over-crowding, the pilgrims sometimes do not arrive there until late at night.

King Abdul Aziz Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 38,000 people, and is the home stadium of Al-Wahda FC.
PIA Flight 740
Pakistan International Airlines Flight PK740 was a Boeing 707-340C that crashed after takeoff from Jeddah International Airport on 26 November 1979. Flight PK740 departed Jeddah at 01:29 for a flight to Karachi after pilgrimage. The aircraft was climbing to FL370 (37,000 feet) when, at 01:47, a stewardess reported a fire near the aft cabin passenger door. The crew started a descent from FL300 and were cleared to descend to 4,000 feet.

2002 Mecca girls' school fire
On March 11, 2002, a fire at a girls' school in Mecca, Saudi Arabia killed fifteen people, all young girls. The event was especially notable due to complaints that Saudi Arabia's "religious police" stopped schoolgirls from leaving the burning building and hindered rescue workers because the girls were not wearing correct Islamic dress.
