1977 Vrancea earthquake
The 1977 Vrancea Earthquake occurred on Friday, 4 March 1977, 21:20 local time and was felt throughout the Balkans. It had a magnitude of 7.2 with an epicenter in Vrancea at a depth of 94 kilometers . The earthquake killed about 1,578 people in Romania, and wounded more than 11,300. Among the victims was the Romanian actor Toma Caragiu. Nicolae Ceauşescu suspended his official trip to Nigeria.

The 1802 Vrancea earthquake was an earthquake on 26 October 1802. Its magnitude was 7.7 on the Richter scale, and 7.9 on the moment magnitude scale, and its epicenter was in the Vrancea area. It was the strongest earthquake ever recorded in Vrancea. It was felt from Saint Petersburg to Greek islands in Aegean Sea, from Belgrade to Moscow.
