University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez

The University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM) or Recinto Universitario de Mayagüez (RUM) in Spanish (also referred to as Colegio and CAAM in allusion to its former name), is a land-grant, sea-grant, space-grant state university located in the city of Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. UPRM is the second-largest university campus of the University of Puerto Rico system. UPRM has been accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) since 1946.

Plaza Colón

Plaza Colón is the main plaza in the city of Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. This plaza and its fountain commemorate the explorer Christopher Columbus, whose name in Spanish was Cristóbal Colón. The plaza presents the traditional urban relationship in Puerto Rico with the church, now Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria Cathedral on one end of the plaza and the "Alcaldia" or Mayagüez town hall in the other. Its location was designated in 1760 close to the city founding.

The Palacio de Recreación y Deportes is a sports arena in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. It has capacity for 5,500 spectators. It has recently been remodeled in preparation for the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games. On March 2008 Jose Guillermo Rodriguez, mayor of the city, announced in a concert given by Wilkins that after the Central American and Caribbean Games the arena would have the name of Germán 'Wilkins' Vélez Ramírez, Wilkins had inaugurated the Palacio with a concert 20 years before.

Parque de los Próceres

The Parque de los Próceres is a park in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. In 1977 the mayor of Mayagüez, Don Bejamín Cole obtained a donation from the Economic Development Administration of the United States Department of Commerce for the construction of the "Parque de los Próceres Puertorriqueños". The park is located in the banks of the Yagüez River between the 108 and 65 roads. The name means Spanish for "Puertorican Notables Park" or "Puertorican Patriots Park".
