University of Madeira
The University of Madeira is a Portuguese public university, created in 1988 in Funchal. It houses the following departments and autonomous sections. The university offers first and second cycle academic degrees in a wide range of fields, in accordance with the Bologna process. It is now under the CMU/Portugal agreement with Carnegie Mellon University, having master program of Human Computer Interaction and Entertainment Technology.
Roman Catholic Diocese of Funchal
The Diocese of Funchal was created originally on January 12, 1514, by bull Pro excellenti præeminentia of Pope Leo X, following the elevation of Funchal from a village to the status of town (cidade), by King Manuel I of Portugal (royal mandate of August 21, 1508). The new diocese was a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Lisbon.

It is currently used mostly for the home matches of C.D. Nacional, one of two Liga Sagres teams located in Funchal (The other being fierce rivals C.S. Marítimo). The stadium is currently able to hold 5,132 people and was built as a one-stand 2,500 seat stadium in 2000, when Nacional moved in.

It offers two Masters programs, in Informatics Engineering and the Professional Master of Human-Computer Interaction.
