Geography of Palau
The Republic of Palau consists of eight principal islands and more than 250 smaller ones lying roughly 500 miles southeast of the Philippines. The islands of Palau constitute part of the Caroline Islands chain.
Babeldaob
Babeldaob (also Babelthuap) is the largest island in the island nation of Palau. Its area, 331 km² (128 mi²), makes up over 70% of the area of the entire country, and about 30% of the population, with about 6,000 people living there. Babeldoab is one of the most undeveloped populated islands in the Pacific.
Ngarchelong
Ngarchelong is the name of state of the country of Palau. Ngarchelong is at the northern most tip of the island of Babeldaob. Only the state of Kayangel is farther north. Ngarchelong is an important historical site and has undergone archeological excavation. Ngarchelong is the site of ancient stone monoliths which are mysterious in origin. Traditional Palaun religion regarded these stone monoliths as sacred prayer ground.
Ngchesar
Ngchesar is one of the sixteen states of the small pacific island nation of Palau. There are about 300 inhabitants, and its capital is Ngersuul. It is the sixth largest state in terms of land, with an area of roughly 40 square kilometers, and it is located on the eastern side of the island of Babeldoab Island, northwest of Airai State, and southeast of Melekeok State, where the Palauan government is situated. The sacred totem of Ngchesar is the Stingray.
Ngaraard
Ngaraard is the eighth state of the Republic of Palau, and was originally named Kerradel. Ngaraard is located on the northern tip of Babeldaob directly adjacent to Ngarchelong state. There are five hamlets in Ngaraard, including Choll, Elab, Ngebuked, Ngkeklau and the state capital, Ulimang, located on the eastern shore of the state. Previously, the capital of Ngaraard was the village of Ngebuked, where the traditional leader of the state, Maderangebuked, lived and reigned.
Ngiwal
Ngiwal is one of the sixteen states of Palau. It has a population of 223 (census 2005) and an area of 26 km². The administrative center is Ngerkeai. Ngiwal is a small village on the east side of Babeldaob. Residents are mainly fishermen or work for the state. There are 3 small family-owned stores, an elementary school, and a public library in Ngiwal.
Melekeok (town)
Melekeok is a town in the State of Melekeok. It is located on the east coast of Palau's largest island, Babeldaob. On October 2006, the settlement of Ngerulmud, located 2 km from the village of Melekeok, became the seat of Palau's government, replacing Koror as Palau's capital city. Ngatpang
Ngatpang is one of Palau's sixteen states. It comprises an area of around 47 square kilometers in the west of Palau's largest island, Babeldaob, facing onto Ngeremeduu Bay. The state capital is Oikuul. It has a population of 464, making it Palau's 5th largest state in population.
Ngeremlengui
Ngeremlengui is one of Palau's sixteen states. It has a population of about 317 (according to the 2005 census) people and is just west of Melekeok state, where Palau's capital village is (also called Melekeok). The capital of the state of Ngeremlengui is Imeong. Ngeremlengui is on the western side of Babeldaob, which is the largest Island in Palau. Ngardmau
Ngardmau is one of Palau's sixteen states and is located on the west side of Babeldaob between the states of Ngaraard and Ngeremlengui. Its total area is 20.5 square miles . According to the last census, 221 persons live in Ngardmau. Their 46 households are situated in three hamlets: Ngetbong, Ngerutoi and Urdmau. The hamlets have no visible boundaries, but form one settlement. The highest elevation on Palau is in Ngardmau; Mt. Ngerchelchuus, which is slightly over 700 feet tall.
Elab
Elab (Chelab) is a village in the state of Ngaraard, north of the villages of Ngebuked and Ulimang. It is the home to Ngaraard's only private Christian (Protestant) high school, Bethania Girl's High School in Ngesang, a small portion of Elab village. In Ngesang, there is a Catholic church located here and a beautiful, white and shady beach, with rock outcroppings. On the otherside of the outcroppings, there is a long beach that runs to the border of Choll and Elab.
Ngebuked
Ngebuked is a village on the west coast of Ngaraard State, Palau, where the Chief of Ngaraard, Maderangebuked is from. It has many stone pathways, ruins and graves scattered all over the surrounding hamlet. Its ruins consist of multi-leveled platforms where clans and families lived. At the center of the ancient site is the Bai ra Ngeruau, a large high platform where a bai, or men's meeting house, stood.
Choll
Chol (Choll) is a village at the northern end of Ngaraard State in the Republic of Palau. This village consists of a large, long beach that runs along its entire east coast. The village has a series of ancient paths and platforms, as the rest of the villages in Ngaraard. There is also a large man-made channel that connects the village to the sea on the western coast.
Ulimang
The village of Ulimang is where the Ngaraard State Office (Ngaraard Branch) is located. Note: Another state office branch is located in Meketii, Koror. Ngaraard Elementary school is located here. Ulimang's coast is an orange, sandy beach, and a small, high dock reaching out into the ocean. There is a large, red, public resting house near the dock. The villages of Ngesang in Elab are located north of this village. To the west is Ngebuked and to the south is Ngkeklau.
Ngkeklau
Ngkeklau is a populated area in the southern region of the state of Ngaraard in the Republic of Palau. The town has a small population, on the east coastal plains of Ngaraard. The town includes several ancient relics of stone, such as stone paths, platforms, and burial sites.
Melekeok
Melekeok is a state of the Republic of Palau located on the central east coast of Babeldaob Island. The new capital of the Republic of Palau, Ngerulmud, is also located in this state. The state consists of long beaches, hill, steep ridges, rivers and the largest and only natural freshwater lake in the Republic of Palau and Micronesia, Lake Ngardok.
Lake Ngardok
Lake Ngardok is a lake on the Palauan island of Babeldaob, in the State of Melekeok. It is the largest natural freshwater lake in all of the islands of Micronesia. The lake and the marshes surrounding it are a refuge for the endangered saltwater crocodile (ius), and it is an important breeding location for them. The Ngerdorch River serves as a route that connects crocodiles with the sea.
Ollei
Ollei (Sometimes called Konlei, as well as variations of the two names, such as Konrei and Olei) is a small fishing village in the Pacific island nation of Palau. It has a population of slightly over 100 http://www. geonames. org/1559604/ollei. html people and is located in the State of Ngarchelong near the northern tip of Babeldaob island. The village is built along a single road which connects it the rest of the island.
Ngerulmud
Ngerulmud, a locality in the State of Melekeok, is the capital of Palau. Although the capital was originally located in Koror (designated as the "provisional capital"), the country's constitution provided that the Olbiil Era Kelulau "designate a place in Babeldaob to be the permanent capital", with the added requirement that this occur "not later than ten (10) years after the effective date of this Constitution".

Imeong is a village in Palau, and the capital of the state of Ngaremlengui. The population is 132 (2009).
