Lahore
Lahore is the capital of the Pakistani province of Punjab and the second largest city in the country. It is the largest native Punjabi-populated city in the world and an important historical centre of the country. Allama Iqbal International Airport
Allama Iqbal International Airport is the second largest civil airport in Pakistan, serving Lahore, the capital of Punjab province. Originally known as Lahore International Airport, it was renamed in 2003 for Allama Sir Muhammad Iqbal, the Islamic poet-philosopher who was a major advocate for the creation of the state of Pakistan, upon the opening of the new terminal building. The airport currently has three terminals: the Allama Iqbal terminal, the Hajj terminal, and a cargo terminal.
Bagh-e-Jinnah (Lahore)
Bagh-e-Jinnah is a historical park in the city of Lahore, Pakistan. It was formerly known as Lawrence Gardens. Today, the large green space contains a botanical garden, a mosque, and Quaid-e-Azam Library situated in a Victorian building. There are also entertainment and sports facilities within the park: an open-air theatre, a restaurant, tennis courts and the Gymkhana Cricket Ground. It is located on Lawrence Road next to Lahore Zoo, directly across from the Governor's House on The Mall.
Gaddafi Stadium
Gaddafi Stadium is a cricket ground in Lahore, Pakistan. It was designed by Daghestani-born architect and engineer Nasreddin Murat-Khan, who also designed Lahore's Minar-e-Pakistan, and constructed by Mian Abdul Khaliq and Company in 1959. The ground was renovated for the 1996 Cricket World Cup when it hosted the final. It is also the largest cricket stadium in Pakistan with a capacity of 60,000 spectators.
Punjab Stadium
Punjab Stadium is a football stadium in Lahore, Pakistan. It is also used for other sporting events, including athletics. The stadium was built in 2003 and had been built at a cost of Rs. 110 million. The stadium has a capacity of 10,000. The architect of the project is Khalil ur Rehman & Associates. The Pakistan Football Federation has its headquarters near the stadium. It recently hosted most of the matches for the AFC President's Cup 2007.
National Hockey Stadium, Lahore
National Hockey Stadium (aka Gadaffi Hockey Stadium) is a purpose build field hockey stadium in Lahore, Pakistan. It is the biggest field hockey stadium in world. The stadium can hold a capacity of 45,000 spectators. It hosted the 1990 Hockey World Cup Final, where the hosts were defeated 3-1 by the Netherlands. 2009 attack on the Sri Lanka national cricket team
The Sri Lankan cricket team attack occurred on 3 March 2009, when a bus carrying Sri Lankan cricketers, part of a larger convoy, was fired upon by 12 gunmen, near the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Pakistan. The cricketers were on their way to play the third day of the second Test against the Pakistani cricket team. Six members of the Sri Lanka national cricket team were injured. Six Pakistani policemen and two civilians were killed.
