Bryggen

Bryggen, also known as Tyskebryggen (the German Wharf) is a series of Hanseatic commercial buildings lining the eastern side of the fjord coming into Bergen, Norway. Bryggen has since 1979 been on the UNESCO list for World Cultural Heritage sites. The name has the same origin as the Flemish city of Brugge. The city of Bergen was founded in 1070. The area of the present Bryggen constitutes the oldest part of the city.

Fløibanen

Fløibanen is a funicular in Bergen, Norway which runs up the mountain of Fløyen. It is one of Bergen's major tourist attractions and one of Norway's most visited attractions. Over 1 million passengers a year have used it over the past few years. Fløibanen was officially opened on 15 January 1918. The idea to build transport to Fløyen was put forward in 1895 by John Lund, a member of the Norwegian legislature. Work to build Fløibanen started in 1914. The line was ready in 1918.

Hanseatic Museum and Schøtstuene

Hanseatic Museum and Schøtstuene (Det Hanseatiske Museum og Schøtstuene) is a museum in the city of Bergen, Norway. The main part of the museum is located in Finnegården, one of the conserved wooden buildings on Bryggen in Bergen, Norway. The museum covers the Hanseatic period of time in Bergen. This building was put up after a fire in 1702 when most of the city centre of Bergen burned down. The museum was started in a building owned the merchant J.W. Olsen in 1872.

Bryggens Museum

Bryggens Museum was built in 1976. The architect behind the work was Øivind Maurseth, who also designed the SAS hotel nearby. The museum was built on the site of a fire that occurred in Bryggen in Bergen, Norway in 1955. Remains have been uncovered by archaeological excavations on the site of the fire. Many of the remains now form the basis of the modern museum and are permanently exhibited. However, the museum also has changing exhibits.

Bergen Station

Bergen Station is the main railway station in the city of Bergen, Norway. It is a terminal station on the Bergen Line, and serves trains from Oslo as well as the Bergen Commuter Rail from Arna, Voss and Myrdal. It is located on the east side of the city centre and has four platforms. The station was opened in 1913, four years after the Bergen Line itself opened; it replaced a former main station that was located further west. The station building is one of the grandest in Norway.

Bergen landdistrikt

Bergen landdistrikt (English: Bergen rural district) is a former municipality in Hordaland county, Norway. Bergen landdistrikt or Domkirken og Korskirkens landsokn (English: Domkirken and Korskirkens rural parish) was established as a municipality January 1, 1838. In the 1835 census the area had a population of 1,381. It was merged with the municipality and county of Bergen January 1, 1877. Prior to the merger Bergen landdistrikt had a population of 4,833 (according to the 1875 census).

Bergen Light Rail is a light rail system in Bergen, Norway. The first stage of the project is a fifteen-station, 9.8-kilometre stretch between the city center and Nesttun, which opened on 22 June 2010. Construction continued from Nesttun to Rådal in January 2011; further plans for the project involve three lines, stretching to Bergen Airport, Flesland; Åsane and Storavatnet. Plans for rail transit have existed since the 1970s, following the 1965 closing of the Bergen Tramway.

Christi Krybbe skoler

Bergen Cathedral

Bergen Cathedral is the seat of the Diocese of Bjørgvin in the Church of Norway. Located in the city centre of Bergen, Norway, the first recorded reference to it is dated 1181. It retains its ancient dedication to St Olaf. During the reign of king Haakon IV of Norway, a Franciscan friary was established near the church, then known as Olavskirken, or the church of Saint Olaf, which was incorporated in it. The church burned down in 1248 and again in 1270, but was reconstructed after both fires.

Fløyfjell Tunnel

The Fløyfjell Tunnel is a road tunnel in the city of Bergen, Norway. The tunnel goes through the Fløyfjellet mountain massif between Sandviken and Kalfaret. The twin-tube tunnel was built in the late eighties as part of the city's motorway network, and is part of the main route between Åsane and the rest of the city. Each of the tubes carries two lanes of traffic on the European route E39/European route E16.

Kong Oscars gate, Bergen

Kong Oscars gate is a street in the city centre of Bergen, Norway. It runs from Stadsporten, northwestwards to Bryggesporden and Vetrlidsallmenning by the bay of Vågen. The westernmost part of Kong Oscars gate is among the oldest streets in Bergen. The street was named in 1857 after king Oscar I of Sweden, who would reign over Norway and Sweden until 1859. It is a one-way road between Domkirkeplassen and its northwestern end, and otherwise a two-way road.

Skansen Tunnel (Bergen)

The Skansen Tunnel is a proposed road tunnel in Bergen, Norway, which would run from Bontelabo to either Christies gate in the city center, or connect to the Fløyfjell Tunnel. The intention is to allow traffic to and from Sandviken to bypass Bryggen and the city center. The project would be part of Norwegian County Road 585 and financing has been secured through the Bergen Program. The tunnel is estimated to cost NOK 430 million and could be completed by 2015.
