Chongju
Chongju (also Jongju) is a si, or city, in southern North Pyongan province, North Korea. Prior to 1994, it was designated as a kun or county. The terrain is mostly level, but mountainous in the north. To the south lies the Chongju Plain, where the hills do not rise above 200 metres. Chongju also includes approximately 10 islands in the Yellow Sea. Some 40 percent of Chongju is covered by coniferous forestland.
Koup Station
Koup Station is a railway station in Chŏngju, North Korea. It is located on the Pyongui Line, which was formed from part of the Gyeongui Line to accommodate the shift of the capital from Seoul to Pyongyang. It was originally opened by the Japanese as Koyū Station.
Battle of Chongju (1950)
The Battle of Chongju (29–30 October 1950) took place during the United Nations (UN) offensive towards the Yalu River, which followed the North Korean invasion of South Korea at the start of the Korean War. The battle was fought between Australian forces from 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (3 RAR) and the 17th Tank Brigade of the Korean People's Army for control of Chongju, North Korea and the surrounding area.
