Hawera
Hawera is the second-largest town in the Taranaki region of New Zealand's North Island, with a population of 11,050. It is near the coast of the South Taranaki Bight.
South Taranaki District
South Taranaki is a territorial authority on the west coast of New Zealand's North Island that contains the towns of Hawera, Manaia, Opunake, Patea, Eltham, and Waverley. The District has a land area of 3,575.46 km² (1,380.49 sq mi) and a population of 26,900 (June 2012 estimate). It is part of the greater Taranaki Region.
Hawera Observatory
Hawera Observatory is situated in King Edward Park, Hawera, New Zealand, and is administered and maintained by the Hawera Astronomical Society, which meets at the observatory on the second Wednesday of the month from February to December. Also, by arrangement, open nights (weather permitting) are held for local groups as well as members. The observatory was founded by amateur astronomer and telescope maker, George Mortimer Townsend, who also co-founded the Hawera Astronomical Society in 1926.
Bayly Park
Bayly Park was a cricket ground in Hawera, Taranaki, New Zealand. first-class was first played there in 1892 when Taranaki played Hawke's bay. A further first-class match came in 1895 when Taranaki played the touring Fijians, with another first-class fixture against Hawke's Bay following in 1897. The final first-class match played there came in 1895 when Taranaki played Canterbury. The ground still exists today, but cricket is no longer played there.
