Clutha River

The Clutha River / Mata-Au is the second longest river in New Zealand flowing south-southeast 338 kilometres through Central and South Otago from Lake Wanaka in the Southern Alps to the Pacific Ocean, 75 kilometres south west of Dunedin. It is the highest volume river in New Zealand, and the swiftest, with a catchment of 21,960 square kilometres, discharging a mean flow of 614 cubic metres per second . The Clutha River is known for its scenery, gold-rush history, and swift turquoise waters.

Kaka Point

Kaka Point is a small settlement at the northern edge of The Catlins, an area of the southern South Island of New Zealand. It is located 14 km. south of Balclutha and 8 km. north of the headland of Nugget Point. It has a seasonally fluctuating population, and there are numerous batches at the settlement. It has a permanent population of about 150. The settlement's best known resident was Māori poet Hone Tuwhare, who lived in Kaka Point for many years until his death in early 2008.
